Sump Removal

Hi. I have to remove the pistons from a series 2 engine and have two questions :-
1. Do i need to remove the reaction plate to lower the sump.
2.Can the pistons be removed and replaced from below or does the head have to be removed.

Thanks James .

Gents, thank you for your comments. I am going with Christopher' theory. Yes the engine was laid up whilst the operation of removing and replacing the engine/gearbox since last November. The Clutch assembly remained bolted to the fly wheel and was not removed. The Thrust bearing was correctly fitted...

Andrew, I have good clutch pressure and the arm is moving the full extent of its travel. Have spoken to a colleague who has had a similar problem when over winter storage. Perhaps i have to be more brutal with the clutch and braking to snap it free.

Thanks Jim

Difficulty in selecting gears and clutch not freeing

Gents ,advice required. I have just fitted a recon gear box and o/d unit taken from a 420G into my series 2 2+2. I cannot select a gear without some force when the engine is running or not. Hello pmanson, when i first saw your post i thought another devastated jag owner who like myself had my 4.2 e-type engine rebuilt only to discover what i refer to as a cam train chatter which comes in at 2200rpm and remains through the rev range. Interestingly,t the engine is quiet on initial start ...

Wiper Rack Repair

Thank you gentlemen for your comments. The car is a 2 +2 ,hence two blades. If I can support the spindle from inside the bulk head and as suggested peen the spindle with a punch then it may work. Thanks again, James.

Repair to wiper rack on a series 2

This week i took the cover off the car only to find the drivers wiper arm resting on the bulk head. On examination i found that the drive spindle had dropped down into the interior of the bulkhead leaving the splined section inside the wiper arm. My question is can anyone suggest a suitable repair t...

I have checked all the wir...
