Re: Horn push not working

Apologies for slow reply!! On inspection I couldn’t see that the earth connection at item 28 was there! I had to dismantle the turn indicator lever as it wasn’t canceling on left turns. Bazaarly when I put everything back still with no earth at item 28b (I took the opportunity to pull the steering c...

Erratic idle when eg at traffic lights

I have rebalanced the triple cabs, am happy with fuel mixture, changed the spark plugs, inspected the air filter, always use 98 octane fuel and try to ensure it never gets more than roughly 6-8 weeks old. I have an Ignition123Tune+ distributor set up professionally. The car idle is set at around 800...

Re: Horn push not working

I did some further testing today. If I connect a stand alone earth wire from the bodywork to the metal parts of the steering wheel and push the horn button it works, which suggests the horn button isn’t earthing. However I cannot fathom where the horn push should be earthed to.

Horn push not working

I have looked back at a previous discussion regarding the horns not working and wanted to understand if I am missing something. I have disconnected the bullet connector (purple black cable which runs to the relay) at the base of the steering column and temporarily earthed this and the horn works, wh...

Re: Gearbox upgrade

Thanks Bill, an interesting response!! As far as I am aware it should still have the original bell housing but I can’t say 100% it does. Uryk has been in touch and has been very helpful in trying to understand what is going wrong, I am based in Bayside, South East Melbourne about 1:45 hours drive fr...

Gearbox upgrade

I appreciate this is an old topic but I am at my wits end with regard to installing a 5 speed gearbox on my ‘62 3.8 OTS. I initially had the original Moss box restored when I was living in NZ but even after that found it an awful box to use , especially changing down through the gears, (not just bet...

Re: Door lock assembly BD20095

Hi Andrew, when you say “pair” the issue isn’t the door lock but as per the attached photo, unless I am missing something!!

Door lock assembly BD20095

Am I correct in thinking it will be easier to replace my non working one with a new one? When the door is open and unlocked the cog just spins round so that when I close the door it doesn’t engage to secure the door shut. I stood against the door and lent in to pull the door handle up it engages the...

Re: Radio console

Apologies I wasn’t notified of your response! I decided to stick with the original console frame. The radio and the frame were in the car when I bought it for restoration some 15 years ago, the dotted alloy facia I bought new as the car was missing that!! Just curious why the console frames are diff...

Radio console

I have a 62 OTS. I had to pull out the radio console which had a non working Blaupunkt radio. There are no markings on the radio so I guess it is from the 60’s. I thought I would buy a new facia part No BD20035 (it’s a long story but need to replace it) and just swap over the dotted alloy, which I k...

Ignition switch bezel

At some time a previous owner put a “new” ignition switch in my 62 roadster, but it has the ugly 6 sided retaining nut and not the chrome bezel. I ordered a bezel from SNG, but the internal diameter of the bezel is a fraction too small and possibly a different thread type, My switch is a Lucas 30608...

Aluminium trim under dash

An old topic, but is there a source for original style aluminium panels, under dash either side of centre console? For 62 series 1 OTS? I currently have some poorly made 2 piece (not 3) hardura panels.

Re: Series 1 Vented discs

Was warned about driving in the wet, but not such a big issue in Melbourne! If the forecast predicts rain the car stays in the dry, that said there no doubt will come a time when I will be caught in the rain.

Series 1 Vented discs

During the rebuild process I upgraded to vented discs on the front only to find that the splash guards no longer fit and rub against the inside of the discs. Anyone come across this and found a solution, other than buying aftermarket original style discs! Hindsight is a wonderful thing......

Re: Demister Vents

I had some reversed engineered and 3D printed using ABS-M30, yet to fit them so fingers crossed. Also made them slightly thicker as ones I have seen were very brittle. Not cheap but we all do daft things at times!

Final throes of a painful restoration!

Very small issue, I am fitting hold down straps for my Series 1 OTS. The kit I bought doesn’t include any chrome o rings. Does anyone know where I could source a pair, or Failing that, the dimensions of the rings. Thanks

Re: Demister Vents

I have now spoken with a lot of people, including a few restoration companies. As far as I know there is reasonable but limited demand for the 3 piece nozzle set but none are currently being manufactured. Bit of a sweeping statement but some of the 5 piece sets being sold are not good quality in so ...

His email address has changed to rmjsmithltd@gmail.com

He would have been at Stoneleigh on Sunday so is probably taking some time to recover!
Ha! Many thanks
