Re-centering/refurbishing con rods is better described in this link than I can at this time of night! http://www.enginebuildermag.com/Article/1109/connecting_rod_reconditioning_more_to_it_than_you_might_think.aspx Going to the expense of a reground crank without getting the Rods checked out as above...

Yes, Chris Watson has done all the work, and he is the man! Unfortunately for him and me the block, which was the correct original engine for my 2+2, showed up with cracks...after the engineering work had been carried out. (I suspect when the block was skimmed)Those cracks run longways down the bloc...

For those of you who remember my tale of woe regarding the original engine I got with the car in this thread it has now been resolved. That's to say the engineer and I have settled with each other and I have got my original block and internals back. The block was worked on and found to have cracks.....

Adam, that's a nice looking 'E'. A couple of thoughts. It's advertised as a '72, but the S2 had long been discontinued by then....I had a S3 Plus 2 that was made in December 1970! I guess that '72 is when it was first registered, but it may be worth finding out if it's one of the very last S2 cars....

It has to go
Hello all, I'm posting this out of a sense of guilt and frustrated disappointment. I will be selling the S2 coupe I bought recently for a couple of reasons.... not withstanding the engine rebuild I initiated which went horribly wrong, see, "Another update" post. Consigning the car never to have its ...

Another Update :(
After the commercially available chemicals poster I wish I had some cheery news but It's not to be.....the original block we stripped down and gave to Chris Watson the engineer, has turned out to be scrap. :( Unfortunately this didn't come to light until he'd re bored it and put a new liner in!! Sti...

Mmm interesting one this...if I had seen just the first post from Mark: would bet I'd have said yes, I would replace it with a modern lipseal. it seems on first thought to be the sensible thing to do. However the rope seal lobby have a good well made point too. My only experience of the two differen...

Crankshaft oil seal(asbestos?)housing, removal!
I have just stripped the engine down to the block and the crank shaft, pistons big ends mains all out and off...how does the oil seal on the flywheel end of the crankshaft come off? all three allen bolts undone, the lowest won't come right out, it fouls the crank flywheel flange, and the dowels are ...

Well all the air bits are bolted together complete with new gaskets etc the only thing I'm not sure about now is the rubber ring that sits on top of the air filter canaster and presumeably slides across the top of the assembly as the engine rocks. Is this all there is? It seems a little too loose a ...

Adam, The OE pumps are quite weak so if yours isn't working well it can be replaced with a cheap modern one. This is how I did mine: http://tinyurl.com/6luk54 Dave Very impressive Dave, I have just had a walk round the Alladin's cave that is the Hutson Motor company in Bradford, mouth watering and ...
