Hi Steve
Have done all that if you read I have uprated torsion bars, Are you saying the setting for them should be the same as standard?

Re: Torsion bar adjustment

Can I move this in a slightly different direction. I ordered and fitted new uprated torsion bars from SNG and not thinking set the car up with the 17 3/4 inch bar. It is riding about 2 inches too high at the front. Is there a known dimension for the bar spacing to allow a more correct ride height ot...

Re: S1: Otter switch temp ratings?

Can't remember but it comes in quite low and switches out low also so fan runs for a long time. I had problems in the Loire Valley last May with mine draining battery to the point we abandoned the car and have altered it for the Fosseway triangular adaptor and a switch with a higher and narrower ban...

LHD accelerator pedal

Hi, After a long restoration my LHD 3.8 is on the road and I have started to do a few miles in it. Have really just started to notice how difficult the accelerator pedal is from terms of space and my big feet. It seems to sit somewhat lower than the brake pedal with the result that the rim of my sho...

Re: Problems registering my car.

Car now successfully registered and has been given a number. Is there any advice on getting correct looking number plates both rear and the adhesive front one and its ultimate position? Obviously black and white for 1962 but any preferred suppliers etc? Can they pre stick the white numbers on the bl...

Re: Problems registering my car.

Hi,
Excellent advice from Chris, and I am now just waiting for the letter from the JEC chap. I sent a scan of the original chassis plate which I have not refitted and that seemed to be a clincher and no inspection.

Re: Problems registering my car.

Thanks Chris, have made E mail contact and it seems he can help for a small fee and it can be done with pictures. I can't help but feel if the car was inspected for its MOT and I have the certificate from Jaguar Heritage that a letter from a club is a bit over the top. They know it exists and they k...

Problems registering my car.

Hi again, Got an MOT on 885785 recently and hurriedly sent all the paperwork off to try to get it road legal. One mistake was to omit the fee of £55 but they are now saying the Jaguar Heritage Certificate must be accompanied by an inspection report from either the JEC or JDC. Is this ignorance on th...

Re: Wheel choice

Now I have my new 6" wheels I have checked and the old wires were also 6". No apparent problem when on the car but one that rears its head is when fitted in the spare wheel well the old clamp to stop movement is now too short. Is there a longer one available for later models that would stop it movin...

Re: Fitting gutter chromes

We too are having problems fitting the cantrail chrome trims. My gutters on the car (1962 FHC) are 61" and the chromes supplied by SNG are 62.5". I called them and you would have thought I was the first person to mention it. We thought they may be for the 2+2 initially. I take it there are no better...

Re: door problems

Well got the can of silicone spray that was used to fit rubber seals on my Z1 lights and it seems to have done the trick, the door can now be opened reasonably easily and it also looks as though the seals are taking a bit of a set too.

Re: Wheel choice

Hi again,

Take it from the number of you running 6" wheels they are OK with standard suspension and don't foul up or reduce turning circle? Or does suspension need modification?

Re: Wheel choice

Interestingly I have Vredsteins on a number of other classics and have found no problem with them. I have a set of Michelins on my Daimler SP250 and they seem fine also. I did have to change front tyres on my Alpine A310 which were Michelins also but they have aged and in doing so had become very ha...

Re: Wheel choice

Is that curly hub Borranis? Tyre chap has found some Vredstein Sprint Classics in Germany and I will go with 5 of those and refurb the old wheels for now and see how we get on. I have it in mind to get the MWS chromed but just 4 and try either Dunlop Aquajets or the Michelins as the decent set on de...

Wheel choice

I am at the point with my 3.8 that I need to buy some new wheels and tyres to replace the old chromed wires and the rotting tyres. I have mulled over for too long whether to get the Blockleys or spend some serious cash on Michelins or Pirellis. Most cars now seem to be on chromed wires and very few ...

I had my 3.8 FHC painted in Canterbury this year. You can have a look if you want and see if it is to your standards and I can let you know who did it.

door problems

Hi, Am progressing with the rebuild to the point where door seals have been fitted. The door is well aligned with the swage line and the top chrome is fixed in securely with space all around but when we put the seal in the outer edge of the chrome it locks the door up at the top. We have obtained th...

Choke and heater controls

Hi, When I bought my car (Ser 1 3.8 FHC)a few parts had been dismantled or removed by a canny seller. I am having problems locating parts that go behind the dash to operate the heater and choke slider controls. Some parts for the heater are available from SNG but not the choke, I can only see the sm...
