A friend of mine bought a very low mileage E-Type and then realised that he was constantly avoiding using it. Because it's real value was in the low mileage, it's value was being compromised every time he drove it - so he used his Healey instead and left the E-Type in the garage. Eventually he sold ...

OK, so the decision has been taken. The car is off to Darlington to have a new frame fitted by Uryk at E Type Fabs. He was so helpful in respect of the frame and other bits of work that are sensibly to be carried out whilst the engine is out. I am going for the standard frame without the various str...

David, You obviously have difficulty telling wrong from right. The steering wheel is now on the right and for me that is not the wrong side. And don't give me any more grief about where it was when the car was built - just go and look at 9600 HP then check the original press photos. Two of the best ...

It rather sounds like I will be going down the route of a full new frame - although I will speak with Uryk first. I appreciate the input of those more knowledgable than I and I will NOT be cutting corners to keep the car "on the road". Far too many circuits to be revisited!!! Maybe I should revive t...

Christopher and David, Thanks for your replies. The crack is in the side frame and you are telling me what I think I already knew. I did hope there might be something out there I hadn't heard about. I wil give Uryk a ring next week. I have no intention of impeding the longevity of the car! (or my en...

cracked frame
Does anyone know if there is a firm who can repair a crack in the front square section frame. The crack is close to the end so sleeving it doesn't seem to be an option. I don't want to replace the frame because of the historic significance of the car.
Any thoughts would be welcome.
Roger

That's the spirit Philippe. We've got to use these cars, we can't just look at them! Mind you, your car does look good! I took my wife out to lunch in mine yesterday and strangely found myself coming back up the Kop Hill hillclimb course - well, you have to press on a bit when going up an historic h...

I had Coopercraft front calipers on my car when I acquired it - not really surprising as Coopercraft carried out the restoration of the car 10 years ago. A year ago Marcus Barclay replaced the rears with Coopercraft calipers during it's annual "once over". Together they give very good braking perfor...

Denis Jenkinson who used E-Types for years doing a high milerage all over Europe wrote in his Motor Sport article in April 1967 (by which time he had covered over 50,000 miles in the S1 E-Type that I now own) "I am happily motoring on Goodyear G800 tyres with 30 lb./sq.in in the front ones and 35 lb...
