1964 UK RHD S1 3.8 OTS BRAKES
HI ALL, I AM IN THE PROCESS OF RESTORING MY RHD UK MARKET 1964 S1 OTS 3.8 AND DISCOVERED THE CAR HAD AN UNUSUAL BRAKE SET UP, UTILIZING A LATER TYPE SERVO AND JUST ONE MASTER CYLINDER FEEDING ALL FOUR WHEELS. IT HAD JUST TWO RESERVOIRS, ON THE ONE FOR BRAKES AND ONE FOR CLUTCH SITUATED ON THE RIGHT ...

Re: Series 1 3.8 low oil pressure after fresh engine build..Help!
Hi Guys Thank you so much for your informed replies, I really appreciate all of your input.. Just wanted to update you and share my good news! I managed to get hold of a mechanical gauge over the weekend and screwed it directly into the block to the right of the filter housing which I believe goes t...

Re: Series 1 3.8 low oil pressure after fresh engine build..Help!
Hi Tom Yes I have tried clamping the return pipe and no it does not make the gauge rise.. the pressure relief valve seems to move freely enough though again I’m not entirely sure how it is supposed to operate. The balance valve again is a fairly simple set up with a ball and spring, before installin...

Re: Series 1 3.8 low oil pressure after fresh engine build..Help!
Hi Steve Curiouser and curiouser! Yes I had noticed my 5th hole which is obviously redundant. As I have had no issues with it previously I see no need to plug it though will take further advice on it. The hole does not go into any galleries so no risk of a leak from it. My car is a late 64 UK suppli...

Re: Series 1 3.8 low oil pressure after fresh engine build..Help!
Hi Chaps Yes I have noticed that there seem to be a number of variations to these filter housings, I’m not sure if the number of coils showing on the PRV spring is relevant, mine is all new. I will try a mechanical wet oil pressure test this week and revert back to you.. fingers crossed it doesn’t a...

Re: Series 1 3.8 low oil pressure after fresh engine build..Help!
Hi Steve On the second start up I was also using the cars electric guage. If you recall from my original post I was getting just 20lbs pressure on the first start up having just rebuilt the engine where I would have expected at least 40-60lbs As also mentioned, before this re build the car was runni...

Re: Series 1 3.8 low oil pressure after fresh engine build..Help!
Thanks guys for those reply’s. That’s an interesting link Steve but sadly that’s an S2 which has an entirely different type of filter housing, the S1 does not appear to have any valves other than the pressure relieve valve and the balance valve.. if any one knows exactly how these work I’d be deligh...

Re: Series 1 3.8 low oil pressure after fresh engine build..Help!
Hi Guys So just to update, I replaced the oil pump and ‘o’ ring seals with new parts supplied by SNG making sure they were a snug fit in both pick up and delivery pipes. I checked the pump flow on a bench using two oil pans and it pumps well even when turned by hand. So I installed it and refitted t...

Re: Series 1 3.8 low oil pressure after fresh engine build..Help!
Hi Guys Thank you for all your responses.. much appreciated! Just a brief back ground, before this rebuild the car was running beautifully with several continental tours under her belt without issues. It began a as cosmetic restoration which quickly spiralled into a nut and bolt rebuild! The reasons...

Series one 3.8 power loss?
Hi Folks..another newbee here in search of guidance! I recently purchased a 64 series one 3.8 roadster and have just returned from the Le Mann classic which was my first real trip in the car. The car behaved impecably on the way down, though a day into the trip and I noticed the ignition light was st...
