Re: Lower Steering Column Removal

Thanks Barrie, I'll give it a shot. Sounds like a two-person job. I'll have to see if my spouse is willing to lend a hand.

BTW, nice to see someone else who has a vintage military Jeep - I've got a 1952 M38A1. Cheers.

Lower Steering Column Removal

Howdy all. I'm refreshing the rubber seals on the steering column housing (the cast piece next to the brake/clutch cylinders that the lower steering column fits through). I'm curious if one can remove the lower steering column while the bonnet is on. My thought was to disconnect the lower steering c...

Thanks again. I really appreciate it. I did manage to snag one on ebay. Any recommendations on good suppliers? I've got the encyclopedia-sized catalog from XKs Unlimited. Other guidance would be most appreciated!

Proper Fan Motor for an early 4.2?

Greetings all and happy holidays! We're in the process of eliminating some of the pesky modern alterations that the prior owner made to our 1965 4.2 coupe, including a modern fan. I'm searching for the right fan motor. I understand that the Series 1 cars had a square fan, but would anyone happen to ...

Mark, thanks so much! Your water-bourne craft sound great.

I think a gathering sounds fantastic! Let's see what can be organized.

I often forget that there are other Mad Rivers. Does your river flow the "wrong" way as well (north instead of south)?

Best,

B.

Horn Relay Question

Howdy all, Sorry for yet another question. Does anyone happen to have a photograph -- or otherwise be willing to take one -- of the original placement of the horn relay on a 4.2 U.S. car? My car has a wretchedly modern relay installed, and I've located an new old stock original, but I can't seem to ...

Run-In Decal

Howdy gents, I've got a quick question about the run-in decals that mount on the windshield (or windscreen to our friends across the pond). First, we've got a very early 4.2 coupe. Which sticker is the right one? Jag wings or growler? Second, where is the decal placed on the windscreen? Thanks every...

Success!

Howdy gents, Thanks so much for the advice and excellent posts about the brake issue generally and the reaction valve specifically. The spigot on the reaction valve cover was indeed broken off, and the spring was also rather weak after years of service. So, I replaced the entire cover assembly, thou...

Thanks! Looks like a job for my emory board and/or box of fuses. This has been interesting. First time we've purchased a concours car, but it seems to suffer from many of the same challenges as our drivers! Nature of the beast, I guess. Connections get dirty, Lucas gremlins come a'creeping, etc.

Choke lamp

Ah, yet another new issue! Started the Jag earlier this evening and the choke lamp wasn't working. It's worked perfectly each time I started the car before now. So, I would imagine that the connection on the choke lever isn't making contact, the lamp is burned out or the lamp is no longer making con...

Horn issue

Howdy gents! Another question about our Jag. When we picked it up on Monday, the horn was working fine. Now the horn is silent. The relay appears to be working, since I can hear it click whenever I push the horn button. Any wisdom would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Hi gents! I finally had the time to look over the servo, at least superficially, and I have a question about which I need sage advice. How is the vacuum hose secured to the reaction valve? The end of the vacuum hose on our car has a metal tube in it, and the hose is secured to the metal tube with a ...

Howdy from Washington, D.C.

Greetings all! Just thought I'd introduce myself. My wife and I just acquired a 1965 4.2 fixed head coupe in Golden Sand with a red interior. We're just getting to know the car, but so far, we're in love! We look forward to meeting other E-Type owners.

Best regards,

Bill Steinman

Brakes

Howdy gents! We just took delivery of our S1 coupe and immediately experienced the brake issue. Let me just say thanks for all of the information in such a concise location!

Also nice to see a few E enthusiasts near the Colonial capital. :D
