Re: 860005 1600HP S1 FHC 24Aug61

Hi Richard, We moved from Hertford to Welwyn earlier this year and 005 was acquired after the move. Not sure if local E-type owners organise periodic gatherings, but I’d certainly be interested and coming along and taking a good look at the E’s. Hello Paul and welcome to this community, Kent Thirle...

Hexagon of Highgate

I have no affiliation with Hexagon but have long noticed their advertisement for a 1965 4.2 FHC in Op.blue. Yesterday I attended an event there and so it gave me the opportunity to look around this 10k miles from new car! The thing that attracts me to these low mileage cars (this one was imported fr...

Re: Richard Smith

I do indeed still have the Cooper S, but sadly like the rest of my cars I have not used it for several years You might recall I imported a 65 S in boxes from New Zealand on 2014, it's been an expensive labour of love but hopefully should be on the road toward the end of this year - might be a shock...

Richard Smith

I've had a bit of a search but have not been able to discover whether Richard Smith is still supplying parts? in particular have been trying to find the 'eared' connectors that hold the wiper tie rods to the wiper spindles and I read somewhere that he was supplying these...Have always found his item...

Re: Shipping and Duty/Death and taxes...

Maintaining an e-type in the UK is expensive. Maintaining one in Canada is MUCH more expensive due to shipping and customs. It's not uncommon to end up more than doubling the cost of items purchased from a US or UK-based supplier. I appreciate these are extremely privileged and fortunate problems t...

Re: Rear Lamps - new or rechrome?

Thank you all for your considered opinions. The originals are not the best, and as the body shop are asking for the lamps they will have the opportunity to alter the body to suit the lamps for a good fit. My feeling for the points made re the the pot metal is that on these components new will be the...

Rear Lamps - new or rechrome?

Would appreciate views on whether it is advisable to get rear lamps rechromed or to just buy new at approx £200.00 per side?

Not sure if this helps and cannot recall where I read this - but apparently DVLA seem these days not be too worried about fitting a fairly close plate with the explanation that one can always purchase an older plate from many sources...

You should try a Austin Healey 100.

The 4 cylinder, almost 3 liter engine can start in _any_ gear. A very low reving engine, too.

Re: S1 (4.2) vs S3

When I first started work I supplemented my income (to pay for my extortionate insurance to run a Mini Cooper) at a local fuel filling station on the weekends. On one shift this brand new V12 FHC etype stopped for fuel and I asked the owner whether he liked it - he was quite vocal in saying that he ...

Re: S1 (4.2) vs S3

Chapman also said "“Adding power makes you faster on the straights; subtracting weight makes you faster everywhere” True, but engines can be tested to destruction safely on a dyno and material reinstated if too much was removed for adequate durability. In most other areas, prior to computer modelin...

Re: S1 (4.2) vs S3

Philip you are touching on a nerve of mine and it regards weight and mass. I grant there is a trade off between the type of roads being driven i.e. motorways or what we term A and B roads but weight/mass are ineffective on all but motorways. When one considers the weight of a an average man one can ...
