Re: Continuous Charging

Just an update, after a few weeks off the conditioner still turns and starts fine, showing 12.8v on the battery before start up. And running still shows half deflection on the ammeter when more than idle. Am beginning to suspect the 4TR so going to replace it before it (maybe) causes damage to the b...

Re: Continuous Charging

I would suspect the battery could be ageing. Try leaving it off the conditioner for a while, and see what the voltage drops to. Also, see how well it turns the engine over when it's been off the conditioner for a while. Even better, use a battery tester! Thanks, Ill try that and report back in a fe...

Continuous Charging

My S1 4.2 spends its off time plugged into a battery conditioner with the battery isolated from the rest of the vehicle. On most recent 2 early year (UK) drives the ameter has shown charging the battery (1/2 deflection) for all the drive, over half hour each. Charge will drop to almost nil when idli...

Re: GAZ front dampers - NOT coil-over type - any experiences please ?

I changed to a Gaz front set last year on my S1 and had no problems at all. Ive used GAZ on my BMW race car for several years and am near enough I can go to the factory to check up and collect when I need to. The race shocks will go to them for service in the new year - they get worked harder than t...

Steering Column Ignition switch/lock

Hi My S1 4.2 must have had a column chane at some point? The ignition switch on the dash is not connected to anything, with the switch on the column active for power, though the starter is still the dash button. Now the problem starts as the collar holding the switch to the steering column has broke...

Well I took the coil off the Frogeye and it runs OK on that. And made it the couple of miles for MOT yesterday. ...passed with no advisory too.

So now waiting for rain to stop for longer trip up and down main road, tools and test lead in boot, to see what happens next.

Will keep you posted.

Thanks guys

I fitted an SNGB arm last month but will try taking a coil off the Sprite to see if that works. More runs up and down road on test this weekend maybe :-)

After 18 months of problems I am thinking rewiring the dash and engine (67 ots). The car will start and run fine but after a while, say 30 miles, mis-firex and dies. Will turn and not restart. Leave it alone for a bit and all ok. Have had new coil, plugs, leads, distributor and ran with emergency fi...

hi

Current carer for series 1 4.2. Still working through occasional engine stops last year. Run 40 or so miles no problem then dies. Wait 30 mins and will resatart and run fine. Only to repeat few miles later. Just about to pull out fuel feed and petrol tank sump.....

Hi
If it is rusted would need replating, usualy things rust from inside unless banged or scratched. Plating costs vary depending if you have full wholes that need patching too.

But paint the inside with smooth hammerite afterwards too (bumpers etc.)
