Re: Finally got one!!

Well done - starting issues?

Ballast resistor once caused me a lot of issues on a triumph spitfire as its in the wiring loom.

Do like that one on ebay, but it does seem a lot by any standard. Of course all the prices are what people want rather than what they get. A nice looking 2+2 series 2 was advertised for ?23k and went very quick which may be underpricing at work. Meanwhile some pitch at ?49k. More than any other E, t...

Thanks everyone, That actually cheers me up as my estimate based on full rechrome, panels (bought and fitting now), new wire loom etc. is ?20k including buying car. It will be a labour of love and not intending to sell, but nice to know that it is kind of financially sound too. I have the feeling ho...

2+2 values

Hi all, Confused by 2+2 values as many are being sold very cheap. Admittedly most are probably hiding small time bombs under the carpets. But for me it was a simple decision to go 2+2 as they look virtually the same and the doors are big enough to get in if you are 6 foot plus and little monster can...

Plasma cutters and dodgy mechanics

Hi all, Well just thought I would say what an excellent tool a plasma cutter is. Not used them before as I had oxy acetylene for my steel cutting days. Plasma cutters are quite cheap (2nd hand Hypertherm is great) and just need 13 amps and a compressor. However rebuilds in the 90s... Is it me or wer...

Thanks Chris, I think I may do the same with the shelf. I will be getting the forward inner arches as you are right, they are complex, just the rear part is mostly flat plates apart from where it joins the outer and that I should be able to beat into submission! The rotisserie is fantastic and will ...

Panels, welding and things

Hi everyone, Well the E is inside the house on its rotisserie and being able to spin it round is just brilliant... So bit more rust than I thought, but not as much as I feared. Extra week of welding to do manly because the various botched repairs and brand new floors were attached by some means that...

Alright, 1-2kg! I guess exaggerating a bit as I felt a bit wimpish struggling with the bonnet, obviously did not eat enough weetabix yesterday. I will look into lead loading and give it a go. Always wanted to try it, I remember watching a guy from Rolls Royce doing it on my friend's dad's E, he also...

Filler and more filler

Hi all, Well I got my e type back and removed the bonnet which is in very good shape. Very heavy though, I began to think I was losing my strength as I struggled to carry into the house. Then I looked at the front, I knew it had had a ding at some point, but I started tapping and found about a patch...

90 views - no guesses?

They are definitely the forward part of the inner rear wheel arches - but are they for 2+2 or the roadster?

Thanks for the answers. I may be able to clean them up sufficiently. Couple of small dings however may cause issue with the chrome. I will use a rubber mallet and take it slowly. I think the general consensus on stainless has changed my mind against it. That guide of 75% cost for rechroming against ...

Hi all, Thank you for the welcomes. I will sort some photos once I read the sticky 'how to' on the topic. Just struggling with the storing and dismantling. She is outside at the moment and I need to get the engine out, frames off and body tub prepared so that I can get it all inside the house. The o...

Originality or perfection?

Hi all, So I now have the E and I am pulling it apart, looking at bits and trying to figure out where the border is between clean, refurb and replace. For example the seats are quite good and original. They have a couple of nicks and tears. I am sure I or a professional can fix these bits, but it wi...

Headlight chrome trim

Hi all,

Just looking at my headlight trims and bar a couple of dings, I think they are okay. New ones seem to be very expensive at ?150 each. Does anyone make stainless steel ones in case I can not straighten them? Or are they expensive to get re chromed?

Thanks,

Bob

Now an E owner

Hi all, Well I am now an E owner. I picked her up today. 5 hour drive to bordeaux, towing with my trusty peugeot (the 406 coupe is a future classic by the way and with a chipped diesel, fast and economic). About ten times on the way back I looked in the rear view mirror with a shock and exclamation ...

Thanks Simon,

I remember autosol now. Years ago I polished an alu swinging arm on a bike, good stuff.

I will try cleaning the chrome and see how it goes.

Old topic I know but had to laugh at all your responses! I almost threw the controller at the tv when they put that glass eighties sunroof in. I mean not just the bad taste, those things always leaked. Might as well put Everest windows on Windsor castle. Having said this, the programme made me look ...

Thanks Warren,

Luckily mine was cream and in desire to be original (and lazy), I will keep it like that!

So I prefer a one coat colour if possible.
