The JT5 uses the exact tooth count speedo gears the factory 4 speed has. So if your speedo is off it is not the gearbox. Angle drives also have certain ratios, make sure you are always using an agle drive for the 6 cylinder E-type. Many people have installed JT5 units without dropping the rear. Slid...

I'm just selling complete kits, since the conversion kit idea saddled me with too much tech support. The conversion kit idea was for people who were capable of building their own gearbox and was never met as something requiring me to walk them through turning every nut and bolt. Peter I understand t...

As you know I don't frequent these forums much. If anyone would care to have me answer any questions please ask me directly. First let me say that I enjoy forums where people can exchange information about what they did such as what has transpired in this thread. It's important. Recently I came acro...

Rory, thanks for the great article and input. You are truly a master craftsman! There are quite a few people that have installed JT5 transmissions with no issues. There could have simply been more grinding on the case or a simple phone call to me to ask how much grinding of the case would be allowed...

This is a common issue, and the cause is always thought to be bearings. If you have ever worked on these transmissions in any sort of volume, you would know that the main bearings RARELY go bad. People grind reverse often. When you grind reverse enough times you bang up the reverse idler gear and ro...

About poor fitting parts.... I can only give you an opinion based on what I have seen by the majority of companies selling parts... and for me transmission parts. Most of your parts suppliers are just that.... parts suppliers. They are not engineering firms. So for example an item such as a washer b...

What melts in a gear set? I've seen burned out gearboxes and the gear sets are the only bits left in a puddle of melted alloy casing. I take it you mean overheated bearings or ancillary parts, not the actual gear sets melting? Pete No actually in the T5 it is quite common if the wrong oil is used, ...

Paul, all well and good but you don't sell your boxes in the UK now! ;) Its not about selling my gearboxes here. The stupidity is not directed at you. Just the general nonsense perpetuated on forums that is totally invalid. Furthermore, if you want to negate my expert advice because I don't sell TO...

i would guess the billet gearbox with a thicker wall section would increase the internal working temperature? although it seems too risky to invent a mixture  ,and the internals of which i always thought were T5 gearsets, does anybody know which? Hi haven't posted here in awhile, but sometime...

Thanks. About ratios with 2.88 or 3.08 type diffs. One has to be careful about acceleration as being the only consideration. Typically as you know 5 speed transmission ratios are designed for the engine application in regards to torque. Most applications behind 4 and 6 cylinder engines will have low...

We do supply the JT5 to Europe. Just not to the UK. This is because of the rash of counterfeit products and people stating inferior kits are JT5 kits in the UK. Please understand this is something I never wanted to do but was getting very tired of the support phone calls and complaints from people w...

Re: E-Type 5 Speed Transmission
No the transmission is not made by Tremec. It just uses some parts from a TremecTroelsbg wrote:Hallo

It seems like the gearbox is made from the company Tremec Transmissions..?

David, the problem with the speedo drive failure in the T5 derived unit is not helped by the increased load put on it by the poorly engineered Jaguar angle drive ---this situation can be helped by buying a quality built angle drive like the ones made by Speedogragh Richfield. Sorry, you just don't ...

I understand Derek Watson is now giving up on the T5 because of the amount of trouble he has had with it. David, As I mentioned before. you should be careful how you word things. T5 is a factory Borg Warner transmission produced in Fords, Chevys, Cosworths, and many others. Most 5speed conversions ...

Thanks, No they are not rip offs of my work. These kits are based on Toyota transmissions. There are an abundance of used units such as the ones required for this kit in New Zealand and Australia. It would be a used box, not an exact fit, but people seem to like them. The downside to any of the tran...

Trying to understand why people still just don't get the fact the the Etype Fabs box is T5 based with a billet case..... I've said this many times... The Lincoln basically is using the 5 speed transmission prep and gears as the XK150 but in a different form factor... Some of the ear...
