I realise everyone has their opinions on what is a price where something becomes to good to be true, I thought it would be a dis service to not pass on a piece of knowledge that could help a fellow classic car owner out. Interestingly EBay will not take the listing down, The manufacturer must inform...

The scamsters advertised the car at 18k six months ago and have now decided to have another go. My friend posted on pistonheads about his experience and yesterday he received an e mail from someone who was about to part with money for it, but fortunately read his post first. Any help in how to catch...

David, In my experience, it could well be a pitted output flange and the new seal is running over the pitting. The original type of seals had a felt dust seal in the oil seal and the modern replacements do not and the modern seal can run in a different position to the original. The felt seals dried ...

David and Graham,

I have tickets booked for Thursday in Coventry, love his music, but have never seen him play live. I am now more excited having read your posts and the Telegraph review.

Hi Jonathan,

I guess the 3.8's with narrow crossplies could handle heavier steering, whereas the later 4.2 with wider tyres needed lighter steering hence the change in ratio.

Maybe a question for a specialist. Ken Jenkins at Derek Watson Jaguar will probably know.

Both the rack bars look to have 23 teeth. So the the 7 tooth pinion will 3.285 turns (of the steering wheel) lock to lock and the 8 tooth pinion will be 2.875 turns lock to lock. The 8 tooth pinion will be the faster rack with slightly heavier steering and the 7 tooth pinion will be the slower rack,...

Hi Dave, Does the leak appear to be worse when the car is left to stand? The gearbox oil level rises when the engine is turned off as the torque converter drains back to the sump and the oil level will rise above the sump gasket. Two other places to look are the selector shaft seal and the kickdown ...

Hi Peter and Gary, The REOPUS requires a steady hand and a small tipped soldering iron for use on printed circuit boards. The unit comes with explicit instructions, you will either need to solder 5 or 6 wires depending on whether you have a standard unit which fits in the V or the uprated version wh...

Hi Gary, It does sound like low oil level. With the engine switched off see if the level registers on the dipstick. If the oil does not register keep adding until it does, 1 pint increments, before firing up. It may make some gurgling noises on fire up which indicate low oil. You will need to keep t...

REOPUS upgrade to a V12 E type

I have fitted the REOPUS electronic circuit board to my V12 E type in place of the Lucas OPUS board in the amplifier and would like to share my experience with you. If you have a V12 and do not think that you are getting the best from the car then try the REOPUS. The difference is amazing. I had a f...

Hi Dave, I had my hood frame stripped and e-coated by SPL in Dudley, Birmingham. I did not want to get the canopy shot blasted for fear of distorting it and due to the double skin on the V12 it would be impossible to clean the void. The finished result was superb. Before dipping it I had the paint m...

Will, My V12 sounded flat when I first had it and I never knew why until I removed the cylinder heads to sort out a cracked head. When I put it back together I noticed the cam timing was out so I adjusted it and when was fired up it sounded like a proper V12. I was convinced the flatness was down to...

I have the uprated remotely located OPUS system which has been on my car for over 10 years, no issues yet. I recently opened it up and had it looked at by an electronics expert at work who instantly recognised one component as being the one which will degrade with time and reduce the performance of ...

Hi Alfi,

Thank you for your reply and tip. Yes the cappings are delicate, I wonder if the modern windscreen seals are slightly different to the originals. Looks like I will have a go at shaving the rubber.

Roadster windscreen A post chrome finisher

I have just had a new triplex windscreen fitted to my V12 roadster and am finding the A post chrome finisher is being held approx 2mm too far away for the top capping to slide over it without loading up the screen. It seems that the rubber filler strip needs shaving. Does anyone have any top tips? I...
