She's gone...

After 4 years of ownership I sold my 2+2 v12 yesterday. I was sad to see her go, but it was time for a change.

Thanks to everyone on here who helped me!

Re: Puzzling tyre problem

It looks like I have tubeless tyres. The valve is steel and bolted to the rim. They are going down even more slowly now, so suspect a leak caused by metal on metal somewhere. I'll do a leak test when I get some time! (I also need to do the Strombergs as these are overfilling and flooding the engine ...

Puzzling tyre problem

This is something I haven't run into before and it has me stumped. I have wire wheels, presumably with inner tubes, and two of them lose pressure (to zero) over a few days but only when the weather is cold. As it has warmed up they hold pressure better and now they only lose a couple of psi over a w...

MoT

Took my S3 for its annual fault-finding session today after the winter layup.

It passed first time...... It has never done that before! The handbrake mod worked a treat.

Just had to tell someone.....

I've just been looking at tyres for my S3. The vredesteins are looking much more expensive now - prices are between ?225 and ?439 (!) each, making the Pirellis look a more reasonable option. Does anyone know where I might find more competitively priced Vredesteins 205/70vr15 tyres?

Alan - I used semi gloss. Not quite as shiny as full gloss, and seemed to match the less worn areas quite well.

Nefematic- I agree. As the rest of the car is still original, having seats with someone patina seems to work well.

I've done the seats now - all looking much better than they did before! The spring as are easy to fit - I used a piece of cotton wrapped round the middle just in case it fell down into the back of the seat.

They cost ?5 each, plus vat and p&p, but there are only 3 left...

I'd add oil and transmission fluid to the list.

I did the trip to Le Mans last year - the only spare I needed was a fuse for the radiator fan - plus about 20 litres of water to top it up after it had boiled over!

I have found some of the springs at Norman Motors http://www.normanmotorsltd.com. They have 3 left.

Next question - does anyone know where I can get the tensioner springs that stop the headrest falling down? The part number is BD37599 but everybody seems to have no stock.

It must have been a common part for many headrests st the time, so is there an alternative?

I now have one of my headrests removed. This is how I did it: 1) removed seat from car - only needs 4 bolts to be undone. 2) with seat upside down and folded forwards, I unfastened the bottom of the seat - it is held in place with a line of short nails, which can be prized out with a screwdriver and...

I can't find any release mechanism on my headrests. It would be lovely if there was one. Any ideas where it magistrate be located.

Rolando - leverage may work - did you protect the seat and headrest by levering between something like two pieces of wood? How much force did you need to apply?

The originals are 32mm x 17mm - maybe 16.8 as I didn't have a vernier scale.

Thanks Geoff I think the S2 seats may be slightly different in construction. It looks like the cover was made like a pillowcase, pulled over the padding and frame and then tacked at the bottom by overlapping the front leather and rear vinyl. There is no obvious stitching to unpick. I'll take a photo...

I read this post with interest as I needed to take the seats out on my S3 2+2 today. It was really easy: 1. Push seat back - remove the two bolts at the front of the runners (I used a 1/2" offset ring spanner). The hardest one was the one next to the transmission tunnel as you only get to turn the n...

Removing headrests

I am renovating the seats - the leather needs recolouring and the headrests needed replacement foam (the original foam had crumbled to the consistency of sand..). I have managed to replace the headrest foam without removing the headrests, but can't get the staples in to finish the job as I can't get...

Dave It sounds as if their plans have moved on since April. I sent my form in then and enquired about a copy of the register. The reply I got was: Dear Steve, Many thanks for the information. The data base is currently 'frozen' as we are preparing to publish a new Directory next year, but as soon as...
