Re: Radiator leak repair or replace?

Hi,Dave,

Thanks for your post and advice. At first glance, I thought my radiator was different from yours, then realised your car is a S1 (the clue was there---header tank!)

I will certainly contact Andy at NAR.

Thanks again, Dave

Re: Radiator leak repair or replace?

Thanks, Tim, just what I hoped to hear.

Steve, thanks, I will go with that. There shouldn't be any issues over fitting!

Geoff, good advice, thank you.

Radiator leak repair or replace?

My S2 radiator is leaking at the top seam above the core, engine side. Would members recommend repairing (with re-core) or replacing with new?

Can the radiator be removed and replaced without removing the bonnet?

Thank you for your views,

John

Re: Tyre fitters in Wirral

Hi, Danny,

Many thanks for your suggestion. In the end, I did manage to find someone local who was willing to fit tyres not supplied by him, so hopefully that is the problem solved.

Thanks again, Danny, for taking the trouble to reply.

Tyre fitters in Wirral

Hi, all Can any member of the forum recommend a reliable tyre fitter on Wirral who would be prepared to fit and balance (but not supply) a set of 4 tyres and dispose of the old tyres legally? The local family tyre business I have used for my everyday vehicles for many years is not willing to fit tyr...

Re: Door key

Hi, Steve,

Thank you for your prompt reply and advice. I used a small pair of pliers from my fishing-tackle box and it worked first time.

Thanks again, Steve.

I hope you can resolve your issues with the electronic fuel pumps.

Best regards

Re: Door key

In my search for the door key number stamped on the actuator arm of the door lock, I took off the clip connecting the horizontal bar to the actuator arm. I am now struggling to put the clip back to secure the connection as there is insufficient space to get my fingers there. Does anyone have any adv...

Steve

Brilliant, simple, easy when you know how. I'll do it that way next time.

Many thanks, Steve

Changing contact breaker points

Today I changed points and condenser. Every time I do this, I worry that I will drop a screw down the inside of the distributor. What do forum members do to reduce this risk? 1. Use a magnet. 2. Cover gaps with a cloth 3. Use thick grease on the screwdriver 4. Fit electronic ignition 5. Any other su...

Re: Gearbox and lsd oil recommendation

Many thanks to everyone who replied. I now have (most of) the answers I was looking for. I'll go with something like Castrol EP90 for the gearbox. I now know I have the later gearbox (access hole on the left, filler plug on the right---pretty obvious really when it is pointed out!). I am still not s...

Gearbox and lsd oil recommendation

I would like advice or recommendations for suitable gearbox and lsd oil, please. I have heard that Redline MT90 is suitable for both gearbox and lsd. I think that Castrol EP90 is a replacement for Castrol Hypoy, but presumably needs an additive for the lsd. Can anyone please advise the capacity of t...

Banjo union to fuel pump

Hi all, Following my earlier query, I assume the bolt is non-standard and the metal washers are 'packing'. The banjo itself has a flat face on one side (facing the bolt head); the other side is recessed sufficiently to accept the second fibre washer (except that the second fibre washer is redundant ...

Banjo union to fuel pump

Hi, All Following my repair to my S2 OTS SU fuel pump, I am unable to make the inlet and outlet banjo unions leak free. Starting from the bolt-head, I have (1) an alloy/aluminium washer, then (2) fibre against the flat surface of the banjo; between the banjo and the pump inlet, I have in the recess ...

Re: Fuel pump problem

Hi, Andrew and James, Thank you both for your advice, which is much appreciated. As I had already taken the pump off the car (again), I decided to separate the two halves as per James' suggestion. I noticed that the points blade did not quite line up. On the car, the pump now works fine, except fuel...

Fuel pump problem

I have replaced the following items on my S2 OTS fuel pump:- inlet and outlet valves, gasket between pump body and coil housing, diaphragm, points and points blade. Installed on the car, it ticks away merrily, but delivers no fuel. The pump is bone dry so no fuel from the tank (which is not empty) e...

Re: Removing gearbox tunnel cover

Thanks, Christopher, will do. I followed the route of the old cable and was slightly surprised that the cable entered the bulkhead from the engine bay to the left (from the driver's viewpoint) of the speedo dial and not directly behind, which means that the curve in the cable is slightly sharper tha...

Re: Removing gearbox tunnel cover

The old cable had snapped. I fitted the new one and took the car round the block yesterday. Success!

Thanks for all the advice. Great team-work!

Before I refit everything, should I cable-tie or clip the new cable anywhere?

Re: Removing gearbox tunnel cover

Gentlemen, I followed your advice and the gearbox tunnel cover and the gearbox are now sitting proudly on my garage floor and I am drinking a (well-earned?) cup of tea. Many thanks to each of you. The old speedo cable inner and outer cover looks to be in pretty poor condition---hope it's the cable w...

Re: Removing gearbox tunnel cover

Hi, Christopher and Ian, I had actually booked the car into my usual garage, but you have inspired me to give it another go! I had thought about removing the passenger seat but had decided against because it is very difficult to access the nut which sits above the LH silencer. I'll give it a go and ...

Re: Removing gearbox tunnel cover

Many thanks, Simon and James, for your very quick replies. I had already removed the radio console, unfortunately to no avail. I am rather reluctant to attempt to slacken off the hand-brake as I would probably end up with another problem as well as the original one! I do however very much appreciate...
