Garry,

Had a look and I've got the whole unit including facia. It's partially disassembled but was working in the car before I degassed it and removed it.

Garry, I pulled one out of my car during a RHD conversion a couple of years back and replaced it with a new unit from Glen Olsen. I think I've still got the old bits including the facia. I'm in Sydney and I'm happy to donate them to your cause if I can find them. I'll have a look and let you know. :)

Peter,
On checking the carbs more closely, I've found that the breather pipe discharge into each carburetor is in fact downstream of the fuel inlet ie. between the needle/seat and manifold. Does this change your thoughts on the matter?
Thanking you for your patience in this matter.

Thanks Peter. Yeah - air injection system and vacuum retard were the first to go along with EGR system. That made a huge difference to accessibility with absolutely no reduction in performance. Still looking for more opportunities to simplify. One idea I had was to connect the main breather line to ...

Engine Breather Removal

In the interests of simplifying the top of the V12 motor and freeing it up to make it easier to work on, I'm wondering whether it's possible to remove all pipework associated with the engine breather. At last count, the pipework offers at least 13 opportunities at its various connections which could...

Following on from my last post, I took both downpipes off and as I suspected they were identical. Both right hand items. Someone had replaced the left one with the incorrect item. A little slicing, dicing and rewelding and it's now perfect and fitted in car. Interestingly, the nuts I removed were so...

Marek, Thanks for your suggestions - they're much appreciated. My thinking is that they are both angled inward, and that is why they are sold as either a left or a right hand item. (Part No's C33480 right & C33481 left). As they're not identical side to side, I'm suggesting that I've got two right h...

Marek,

Thanks for the feedback. I'll certainly look at the mounts more closely. In your opinion, is it conceivable that a previous owner has done what I suggested initially - ie put a RHS downpipe on the LHS.

Marek,

Engine height is the same both side and the engine is centrally located. Mounts are in excellent condition. I understand the the engine twist under load but surely the downpipe should not be almost touching the subframe at rest?

Whilst we're discussing V12 exhausts, I have an issue with the bottom flange of the LHS downpipe banging against the subframe under load. This flange almost touches the subframe at rest (within 2mm) with a 50mm gap on it's opposite side between the flange and the engine sump. However, on the RHS, th...

For those who might want to use this for future reference, I found exactly what I was looking for in the Restoration Stories and Owners Gallery section of the forum, under the heading of "Not bad considering it was MOT'd 4 days before collection!"

Steve, Thanks for that - looking at the photos it appears to resemble my cay around the radius arm mountings but differs around the area where my jacking points are. This is obviously a S2 car so the jacking points are quite different, and it's a roadster so the internal panelwork over the area is q...

Thanks gents, At least now I've got a starting point ie from inside the car under the rear seats. Happy with that. Just on the rust situation, there was some in the front floors but these have been replaced. I do take your point about the potential for the sills to be somewhat suspect. It's an ex-Ar...

Thanks Merak,

I actually want to rebuild the original jacking point support structure. That's why I've requested any photos that were taken of such a refabrication, showing the best methods and points of access.

Jacking Points

I have a S3 V12 coupe which is generally in good shape body-wise. Very little rust. The exception appears to be around the rear jacking points which I understand is very common. Upon recently attempting to lift the car using the jacking point, it quickly punched itself up into the underside of the c...

Post Script: Fitted the 10mm thick mild steel packing rings on the top of all springs. Job done and ride height was subsequently increased by about 22mm. Great result - perfect according to manual that suggests clearance of 200mm. Only issue was that the spacers (packing rings) had to be slightly mo...
