Re: Where to find rear door vent cover part BD38987?

Did anyone find a source of this part? It's not the chrome grille but what fits on the inside of the rear hatch. I suppose the function is to prevent exhaust fumes entering while allowing the fresh air ventilation to operate properly. I have a not great photograph of the part but I think that it sho...

Just as a postscript to this topic, as a result of an email to Julian Barratt he has tod me that SNG Barratt now supply an overhaul kit comprising the ratchet plate and pawl and some other small items. Too late for me and I don't know how much it costs but it is certain to help someone. Good for Bar...

There's a slot on the rounded edge of the stem right at the bottom. If you pull the headrest up to its highest position, then feel for the catch and press it while you keep pulling it will come out. If yours are anything like mine the catch will break off and then the headrest won't stay up unless y...

I have a spare boss (BD32397) and a 3/16" UNF bolt screws in quite happily. So does a 2BA. Essentially a 10-32 thread. 2BA is 31.35 tpi and might be easier to find. Try www.nylonalloys.co.uk and under Unified, Raised, Countersunk and you'll find a selection of lengths in the right thread. Only probl...

Thanks for the responses, guys. I had no luck finding a good secondhand lever and I did have a go a filing new teeth but the ratchet is very badly worn. Simon Hemsley also suggested building up the teeth with weld but but I'm a bit stuck for doing that with my present facitlities. As it turns out I ...

Handbrake Lever

The handbrake lever on my Series 2 is worn to the extent that when on, a sharp downward rap on the lever makes it release. The MoT tester won't pass it until this is fixed. I have dismantled it and the problem is wear in both the ratchet plate and the pawl. Has anyone been able to find a UK supplier...

Steering Rack Mountings

Has anyone successfully replaced the Metalastik steering rack mounts without first removing the radiator? My car is a 1970 Series 2 OTS rhd in case the difference between models is significant.

Hi Chris, My car is largely original as the previous owner had it for 28 years, most of these it was stored in an old barn. I have renewed rather than restored but it has got a couple of new panels and it has been repainted. My fuel tank arrangement seems to be the same as yours. In addition to the ...

On the topic of numbers, I see that yours is 21 cars later than mine (1R1400) but the original engine for mine is the one after yours (7R8076-9). However, my body number is 4R5453 which means that whatever the missing digit is the two bodies are at least almost 500 apart.

Strange.

Francis, Thanks for the pictures. They are indeed helpful. I am interested to see that you have a plate that carries two 6RA relays. On my car there is a completely different bracket very clearly intended for only one relay which is for the cooling fans. It looks like that is what the lower relay is...

Harry, Thanks for the suggestions. In fact I have got Porter's book and I also have obtained other photos which taken together show what the mounting looks like. Crucially, Steve very kindly PMed me the critical dimensions so I now have enough information to make all the parts. The materials arrived...

Steve, Bought a repro chrome finisher at Stoneleigh last weekend from a very well known E Type panel supplier. I now have one original (left side) and one repro (right side). It is hard to believe that they made the repro using an original as the pattern. The profiles and even the sizes are differen...

Ignition Coil on Picture Frame

Dear Forum members, This is really a repeat of a post I made in Jan 2009 but there are now more members so I will try again. What I am looking for is a decent photograph of how the coil and the ballast resistor are mounted on the picture frame. I have the correct coil and resistor but not the mounti...

Well the groove looked slightly asymmetric and so did the seal so I fitted it so the two matched. It seemed a good fit when pressed into the groove. Is there more to it than that?

DC The gas strut conversion is a perfectly good idea if originality isn't your thing but when in good condition the way Jaguar made it worked perfectly well. Mine doesn't flap and the boot lid pops open smartly and stays fully open without any problem. That said, I'm sure if Jaguar were making it to...

Hood to Winscreen Fit

Last year I had my windscreen refitted professionally and very expensively by a well known local restorer and it now no longer leaks at the bottom but read on. I seldom drive the car with the hood up but since the windscreen job at speeds over about 20mph the wind noise is deafening. I am not exagge...
