I know. Been using penetrating oil last few days. The flat recessed nut holding thumbscrew to bulkhead loosened up but to undo it gonna need someone to counter from bulkhead interior. Such an arm scraper trying to insert arm through bulkhead hand hole.

I'd love to get this fxn working while I have dash vinyl top cover off. As mentioned my bulkhead (engine side)thumbscrew is rusted shut but I'm still thinking ...

Excellent. I'll get some sikaflex no prob, not sure about grommets but I will procure somehow somewhere. Good idea on the carpet. I won't glue it down. My only regret was not lining the inner tranny tunnel with liner when we replaced clutch and flywheel. Ratz.

Ha! You were right. Found the hole from inside console metal which was concealed by the thin wraparound tail of vinyl/pleather done by PO upholsterer.
