Re: XJ6 versus E Type

Hi Geoff, I know this is not exactly what you asked for, but I own both a V12 E Roadster, and a 1979 Series 2 Daimler Vanden Plas 4.2. As has been said before, they are surprisingly chalk and cheese. Both cars are on standard suspension and steering, with the exception that they are both polybushed....

Re: Has anyone used...

I used them for a bare metal re-spray on my S3. Well, it started that way, then 'whilewerehereitis' set in, and I asked them to go much further with engine and g/box removal, detailing etc etc. Finished autumn last year. Mechanical side handled by Mark, but Harvey oversees, and is the day to day poi...

To me, the S3 was the only one to have: I think the extra 9 inches in length gives the car a more 'drawn-out' look, which really suits it (tho well aware I'm in the minority here...) I love the look of the wider track I'm getting old, so the softer, less sporty / more GT, feel of the car really suit...

David, I can recommend Pitt Lane in Winchester - a little closer to you, as well! They have done a stunning sympathetic restoration on my S3 roadster, and have been great to deal with all the way through. They only finished a week ago, and the car looks much better than my clumsy photography would s...

I think I tripped over one of the other two: I saw it late 2012 / early 2013, and was in a workshop in Hampshire. If I recall correctly, it was RHD, and the exterior was a light green colour. It had been 'customised', with flared wheel arches (more than a standard Series 3), and Wolfrace type alloy ...

Pim and Mark - thanks very much for your confirmations.

Those old colour-cards are so useful...

I love the idea of a flowerpot decal - I'll work on it!

Thanks David. On balance, although a factory original car would have been great, a more 'normal' colour scheme is easier on the eye. For those that are thinking "silly idiot doesn't know what colour his car is..." I would say in my defence that 'red' could be anything from a deep Oxblood, and at the...

Spoke to Mick Thurley earlier today, and he was great! He recalled the 5 turquoise / terracotta cars, and said that the interior was so unpopular, not only was it not produced any more after that, but a few owners actually later changed them over to black or tan interiors! As regards the carpet, he ...

Ah - thanks David. So I guess from what you say, there is no guarantee that the 5 turquoise & terracotta cars were even sequential on the line? Makes tracking down its 4 'brothers and sisters' a little harder... I'll let you know if Mick Thurley remembers anything, and thanks for your help! Regards ...

Gents, Many thanks for your responses - what a great forum! I'll be on the phone to Mick Thurley first thing in the morning. The car was indeed originally painted turquoise, but mine was repainted Jaguar Dark Blue in the early nineties, a colour it still carries. I have to say I think I would have f...

Terracotta Trim - what colour carpet?

Folks, some assistance please: I am about to order a new carpet set for my Series 3 OTS. According to the heritage certificate, it is the 1st of only 5 cars with terracotta trim. Mine is 1S2400, made August '73. The carpet when I bought the car was dark blue, whereas the sill and rear wheel arch cov...
