I am about to do the same job, once again. Engine has to come out. This time I will try to not damage the threads on the 4 bolts that hold the torsion bar. Having said that I will also replace the 4 bolts. Last time I had to hammer them pretty hard and threads were damaged. Those are high tensile st...

I guess removing the bonnet by my self is not such of a problem... putting it back in alone will be a bit more of a challenge.

Any comments regarding the rest of plan?

Cheers,
Fred

Steve, interesting those wheel adapters! I have been checking around and showing picture you sent but no-one has seen them before. I can't source them locally, I could try to make them though. I guess I will have to go for the backup plan, 4-post lift/ramp... see details below. Ian/Christopher, I ag...

2-post lift to remove/install engine from below

Hi Gents, I have been reading a lot on 2 vs 4 post lift for removing the engine from below. Obviously different views on which ways is best. Getting my hands on a 4-post lift in Brazil wont cost less than ?5000. My plan is to use a 2-post. I could acquire a ramp for 2-post, but removing the cross-me...

Bolts to attach moss gearbox to bellhousing (E-type S1 1963)

Just finished a major engine overhaul. I was planning to put the engine+gearbox back in the car.... but I am now facing issues with how to attach the bellhousing to the gearbox. The holes threaded in the face of my moss gearbox are not UNF as in the well know all-synchro transmission. The parts cata...

Yeap Peter! Looking forward to see how I handle the tractor transmission... If I cannot manage, I will recondition the all-synchro and put it back in!

Yeap Peter, I checked the forks on 3.8 S1, 4.2 S1 and 4.2 S2.. they all have the same part numbers C9797. Flywheel, starter should be the same, I counted the teeth and checked the part number for the started. My conclusion is that the bell housing in this 3.8 was machined to fit the all-synchro. So ...

Peter, I agree with you. It would probably be feasible to use the short all-synchro mechanism in the moss gearbox. Out of curiosity I checked the pivot jaw assembly in a Series 2 (non-moss) and took a picture of it, below. The little arm does look thinner comparing to the moss version, circled in re...

Thanks Marek/Andrew, I will buy the pivot jaw assembly from the moss. We included a bell housing and got a discount with Joe Chilbert. All for US$ 325.

No modification to the pivot jaw, it didn't look as straight forward as I initially though.

You all have a good weekend!

Great pictures Andrew. Would you know if the assembly is interchangeable with the All-Syncro gearbox?

Reason why I ask is that, the pivot jaw assembly in the car (all-Syncro) could be used in the moss.

Any hint there will be welcome!

Cheers,
Fred

Pivot jaw assembly - Moss Gearbox

Gurus! I am working on a moss gearbox for an E-type S1. It is missing the bell housing and the pivot jaw assembly for the shifter. I have located this assembly, pictures below. Is it the correct one? or perhaps is the one for the later S2 (sll- syncro)? Looking at the parts catalogs, drawings were p...

Barrie, I already have the moss gearbox, just need the bellhousing. But the person probiding the housing is unsure if it was from an e-type or MK2. The only thing he knows is that it came from a 3.8 So from you previous message, I understand the housing is the same and the only difference is the gea...

Moss gearbox e-type vs MK2 3.8

Hi Gents,

Could someone confirm the moss gearbox from an MK2 3.8 fits an early e-type, Series 1 + moss transmission?

Thanks in advance for the support,
Fred

Hi Gents, I finally managed to buy my metallifacture jack, it has been hard to get something in a reasonable price, paid ?196 for a lotus elan version.
