Re: Newbie from California

Robert, welcome to the forum. The best place for all things E Type, advice, help, information.
Andrew is right, the Jag Lovers is another great place for help for those in the US.

Tell us more about your car and your experiences driving and working on it.

Good luck

Re: E type series 3

I echo what Steve has said. It is fraught with danger to not inspect the car or to not get an independent and knowledgeable (about E Types, not just classic cars) person to do that for you. Whatever the present mechanic says!

Re: Area meetings

David, are you asking about ‘E Type Club’ meetings? The club has their own forum, I believe and that would be a better place to ask as this forum is not directly associated with that club, although quite a few users are members of it. Why not get in touch with them? Otherwise, this is a forum with n...

Re: Getting nearer

Well done Steve. Will you be telling us of the work you’ve done? It’s always interesting to hear what people have had to do to get cars back on the road. Good luck with the remaining work

Re: New member and new car

:yeahthat:

Works very well for me, search is a great function and can find most of what I’m looking for quite easily or ask a question of the more knowledgeable if needed.

Re: Cadmium Plating in UK

Steve and Stuart, thank you both. It’s for suspension parts and other bits that could pick up stone chips more readily than other areas. A local company did a nice job of zinc plating such parts for me in the past and now planning for more things as needed. Appreciate all the help and hope this info...

Re: Cadmium Plating in UK

Stuart, thank you. It all helps in planning the next set of plating to be done to various parts, some of which will be painted. It looks like zinc with clear passivation if being left unpainted, but zinc unpassivated then etch primed before painting.

Re: Exhaust question/recommendations

Well Jonny, it’s your hearing. Search on here for stainless exhausts to get thoughts, there have been some advertised for sale by people changing back to standard. How about giving a bit of update on what you’ve done and photos of the finished car? Always good to see another E back on the road. Have...

Re: Exhaust question/recommendations

Jonny, out of interest how far have you driven the car at motorway speeds? Many owners soon wish for less noise after a while if going for any distance. Just a thought to consider before you plan on a louder system.

Re: Cadmium Plating in UK

Aren’t these companies only allowed do this work for the aviation industry now? And even if not, judging by their list of clients getting a few parts plated for an E Type might be eye watering expensive. I’ve seen some companies are now pushing zinc-nickel (or similar) as a more environmentally kind...

John, do you have a copy of the service manual? Please read page J.7 ‘refitting’ as this is what Andrew and Christopher are referring to.

Richard, a photo of the passenger side carpet with masking tape to mark where the fasteners locate.

Don’t know how correct this is as there’s been work in the area in the past, but they seem to work. Maybe others can comment?

Cheers

Re: Indicator not winking

Darryl, where did you buy from? All my parts came from bettercarlighting and worked straight away. Can’t really suggest anything other than another thorough check of all wires, connectors, etc. as LEDs seem to be more prone to problems when replacing older bulbs/systems. One thought which may be tot...

Re: Indicator not winking

Darryl, LEDs need a different relay. Look at people like bettercarlighting.co.uk and ask for all that would be required to change. I have them in my side, rear and brake lights and indicators. Much brighter and hence others see you earlier. Not for headlamps, though (I still believe that is so). Geoff

Chris, look here as a set was on offer, whether they still are who knows, but they might be a help or solution to your needs. Frustrating to have to go this way but worth considering.
