Re: Alternator warning light coming on but alternator charging

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I have checked that there is no link to the oil pressure warning. In the meantime I think I found the problem Monday night by fiddling around with all the wires. There are 2 brown / purple wires crimped together into a single spade connector that connects to ...

Alternator warning light coming on but alternator charging

I have a long-running problem with the alternator on my series 1.5 E-type which recommence this weekend. I have read the other posts on this topic but not found anything exactly like mine. Here is a summary of the saga. Any suggestions welcome..... Late 1967 E-type 4.2. Completely restored, bodywork...

Re: High oil pressure and rear oil seal leak.....

So, I finally have a leak-free car (well, more or less). There was still a leak from the blank on the bag of the RH cylinder head which had the wrong O-ring fitted. When I replaced the O-ring that solved the remaining engine oil leak. The gearbox oil leak, on the other hand, got worse. As it didn't ...

Re: High oil pressure and rear oil seal leak.....

Eric and Hugo,

Eric was right, there is some oil leaking from the camshaft feeds. I have tightened these again so hopefully it will eliminate one leak. Still have a leak, but not as bad as before so the new breather arrangment seems to have helped.

Re: High oil pressure and rear oil seal leak.....

Yes, Ken said it was the arrangement used on earlier E-types.

If it stops raining by the weekend (yes, it does rain in the south of France), I hope to get out for the next test drive.

Will certainly let you know how it goes.

Hi Simon,

I did drain and re-fill with the correct amount of oil.

Re: High oil pressure and rear oil seal leak.....

Hi Eric, The leak is not from the cam covers or camshaft oil feeds. The drip is clearly coming from inside the bell housing which means either rear crank seal or gearbox seal. Since I posted my query, I changed the oil breather assembly with parts supplied by Ken Jenkins in the UK. I don't understan...

High oil pressure and rear oil seal leak.....

From searching the forums, people are obviously more concerned with low oil pressure. However, I may have the opposite problem. The oil pressure gauge is off the scale from cold and stays that way most of the time. Admittedly, I have only done 40 miles on the road so most of my observations are base...

Re: Series 1.5 oil level and engine gearbox height and mounting

Drained the oil (without removing filter) today and filled it with 8l. .
The oil level comes up to the bottom of the hatched marking on the dipstick, so one way or the other I think I am on safe ground.

Re: New Wiring Loom - any recommendations?

I got an Autosparks loom via Barratts. Excellent quality and fitted perfectly. They were very helpful when I had a query and sent wiring diagrams.

Re: Car from US to Europe, recommendations?

I can't recommend a particular company to use, but I do strongly recommend that you check carefully which country in Europe you bring the car into. I brought mine into France where it turns out that a 68 E-type is not considered a collectors car and therefore subject to import tax and 19.6% VAT. I c...

Re: Instrument repairer recommendations?

I have used JDO to refurbish all my instruments from a series 1.5 E-type.

He's a bit of an acquired taste and a bit tetchy if you haven't captured all the instructions on his website.

However no complaints at all about the work done and fast turnaround.

Re: Series 1.5 oil level and engine gearbox height and mounting

Thanks for all the replies. I cannot find any problem with the engine / gearbox mountings so I am going to leave that alone. I have spent this weekend fitting a Rob Beere torsion bar adjusting kit and have now got the front end of the car to the correct height. It was about 20mm low before. That sho...

Series 1.5 oil level and engine gearbox height and mounting

I have just completed a 3 year total rebuild of a '68 series 1.5 4.2 roadster. Still a few niggles to sort. One is that it required more than 2 gallons of oil (1 or 2 pints more....!) to get to the level on the dipstick. Although the car runs fine (in the garage, and 40 miles on the road so far), I ...

Re: Handbrake warning light on (dim) when ignition off

I disconnected the purple wire from the 5 way connector which connects the wires from the indicator switch. This solved my handbrake warning light problem. This was also causing the connector block to get hot. Obviously a bad connection. I don't really understand why as the 5 way connector was new a...

Handbrake warning light on (dim) when ignition off

Hi Folks, Hi Folks, :helpsos: I have a problem with my handbrake warning light on my LHD, ex-US series 1967 1.5 OTS. When the ignition is on and the handbrake is on, the light is on as it should be. However, when I switch the ignition off, the light is still glowing slightly. I have established that...
