Thanks to Neil and David for clearing this up.
I think we are on the way with these rubbers.

Mudguard rubbers under the bonnet
Hi everyone, I am still struggling with the rubber seals under the bonnet. After pictures from colleagues on the forum and visitiung a memberin Devon I have managed to get the main rubbers on the mudguards pop riveted on but I am now left with two pre-drilled steel strips and the rubbers. I know one...

Thanks for the advice people. When I got the car, there were no mudguards at all, so the ones I have are repro , but they do fit. However, there are no holes in them, and that is the dilemma. I think the best I can do is to take some close up pictures of a car with correct rubbers, meticulously meas...

E type S! FHC mudshield sealing strips
Hi Guys, I am having difficulty finding a picture of how exactly to fit the pop-riveted sealing strip to the right and left mudguards, and at what intervals to place the rivets. Does anyone have a template or are you able to send me a picture? I also need the positions of the mounting/fixing bracket...

By the way, Hutson's only have sun visor brackets if they currently have items from breaking E - types. They can supply the sunvisor itself. They currently have no brackets, according to Andy. They have some E-types being broken but his boss wants to keep the bits for themselves to use in restoratio...

Hi everyone, re sun visors. I have just spoken to Richard Smith as I needed sun visor brackets as well (S1 3.8 FHC). He has them remanufactured in batches of 10 and has some in stock at the moment. I have just purchased two, but there are some left. I think he said ?190 for the pair, or thereabouts,...

Thanks Neil, I am doing similarly. I have had to remove both length and width to fit my Lucas battery. Yours seems slightly different in all dimensions. On reflection, it might have been most sensible to find a battery which fitted the carrier but also the retaining frame. Hard to do on-line and non...

Thanks Ian, That is useful info as most of the "classic" batteries for 60s cars still come with sulphuric acid solution (not gel) and have poor cranking capability in the cold (by modern standards). I have had two and I was not impressed, hence the modern Lucas one I have now. I will contact the peo...

Thanks chaps. I will make up something like this to get through the MOT, but I may see if I can make , or have made, something a bit more period-looking, maybe even using the original part but cutting down the lugs where the bolt goes through. If I can improve on the simple strap, I will report back...

battery retaining strap
Now we have to have the battery restrained by a strap or similar to get the car through the UK MOT test I wonder what people are doing if their old retaining frame, the original equipment, does not fit their modern battery. I have a Lucas battery which fits the tray nicely in the horizontal dimensio...

Many thanks to everyone for the advice on cad plating. In the end I cleaned the pipe up with paint stripper, slightly diluted with water. I then burnished the rusty bits with fine wire wool, polished the whole pipe with very fine rubbing compound and then varnished it with clear acrylic lacquer. Mos...

Thanks again David. Some of the cadmium plating has come off my breather pipe, and it is showing rust in places. Of course, I could just paint it with "Hammerite Smooth" silver paint, but tht would not be quite as good as having it plated. As far as I know it is now very difficult to get cadmium pla...

Breather pipe on June '62 e-type S1
Hi everyone, The breather pipe to the plenum base on this e-type is the cadmium plated variety. The JNCA Judging Manual does not give information if this was ever painted - presumably not as it says cadmium plated as below: Flexible pipe to left splash shield changed to cadmium -plated pipe with hos...
