Re: Will A XJ6 S1 inlet manifold fit?
What are you doing for the air filter box? Are you continuing with the Stromberg US-style box, or swapping over to the S1 triangular funnel and cylinder, or maybe just K&N's

Re: Puzzle for Forum Members. Annoying Squeak Noise.
A true story I heard from a time served mechanic who used to work for me, new Audi customer delivers car to garage and complains of rattle. Goes off to work in a 'loaner' car. Returns, mechanics found nothing, despite extensive searching and test drives. This repeats itself. Finally the foreman spot...

Re: Barn find at Anglia auction this weekend
I don't believe the odometer is true. Why are the sills replaced, or at least smothered in red oxide primer. The interior looks iffy. Non original steering wheel. Under hood frame rails don't look right for 2800 miles. Someone's either clocked it or changed the speedo. So it's not quite the barn fin...

And Carsten, just wait until you're on the autobahn, doing say 80 kph, and click in the MOD ... it's truly superb !!! ... it'll take you way up the speed range without stressing the engine. I had a hoot this summer doing 130+ kph up and down to Sweden, engine toodling along in the low 2K range. I ha...

Agree. Coach bolts as they're known. Certainly the quickest and easiest solution. And probably best looking. That's that decided then!

Welcome Mats !
Sad to here about the fire, but good no one was hurt, only the feelings. At the end of the day it's just metal (and glassfiber). Happy to see a convert from US to UK cars

Re: 2+2 rear exhaust mounting bracket / bolt
Carsten I feel your pain. I see also the suggestions, may I make one also. Fabricate a "top hat" channel that fits around the reinforcement channel that is on the boot floor. The "top hat" will be like an inverted U-channel with sideways flaps. I am thinking 2mm steel, sideways flaps 20mm wide, the ...

Re: What are these carpets for ?
Carsten, I recognise the shape of the left one as being the piece that goes from the brake pedal arm and upwards (rearwards) to the steering column, the right one I'm not quite sure about, but it's quite similar in size to the piece on the passenger side that goes from the firewall and upwards (rear...

Re: Temporary Paint Job Opalescent Silver Grey
Aha  Oh, btw, I'm probably gonna be more active on the S2 pages (so far mostly S1 and Technical), managed to stumble across an S2 OTS just put out on the 'net late one night, and after a few hours of on-line chatting took a punt and put in an low offer. Which to my surprise had been accepted...

Looks good. Almost as if he's only used the "base" colour part of the base & clear. Base is really easy to apply, almost idiot proof (ask me why I know  ), and clear can be really tricky ... Of course maybe he didn't spray base coat, maybe just rolled on some grey primer

Excellent!! I thought it looked a bit like Norwegian roads. I hung on until the end of the clip, and realised that yes, it is Norway !
Whilst on fun car films from Norway, check out this one with Petter Solberg. OK it's a Merc, but it's still worth watching.

Re: Camshaft timing
My money would be on fixing the head that came off the engine, not the spare one. There's a few engine builders in Oslo, and of course Sarpsborg Motor, but when I checked prices 2 years ago (for my TR6) I thought they were all a bit pricey. So tracking down Kjell Kirkebakken i Ski (closed now) I fou...

Re: Off the Road for 25 Years, On the road in 8 weeks
A clonk (click) from the front end can be a worn bush or rack-bar on the steering rack on the side opposite to the pinion. The rack can be rebushed and reamed. But I guess you've got a brand new rack. And TRE's. Have you checked the wheel bearings? The paint, I understand what you have, mine was als...

I've repainted my E in Gunmetal Grey. I used Cromax as the paint supplier, and their relevant code is J 1052. The Cromax website for a while was 'open' and allowed private individuals to access the paint recipe, which I duly did and have it stored if anyone is interested. The website has now closed ...

Re: Off the Road for 25 Years, On the road in 8 weeks
Outstanding amount of work done, that would take most others a year or two. Anyhow, I like the satin finish, at least on the pictures. Have you considered employing the services of one of the good 'car-polishers' to come around and properly polish up the paint, using the correct pads and compounds. ...

Re: Bonnet Shut Rubber ? Which way up, or another supplier ?
For sure the rounded section goes up, and the flat gets glued into the bottom of the steel channel. My car was riginal paint / one owner / low mileage and was definately the round & square type, just like you got from SNG. And it was bonded in with contact adhesive, rather splashily applied. Hard an...

Re: Help needed!!
I am assuming the engine and gearbox are out of the car? If so then you have good access to put on an impact gun, with proper impact sockets. Mine was stuck, tried my longest breaker bar, lots of welly, no chance. Then got out the impact gun, whizzed the nut off in a jiffy.

I wired mine up after studying manuals from XJ6 and TR's and Laycock. It's just like Carsten wrote on his second posting, you jump the live feed that is there anyway (feeding into the reverse 'switch' on top of the gearbox) take that and feed across and into the new overdrive gearbox swith (the Luca...
