Re: smooth Apost seal ?
Yves, Fitting new door seals is an art. They are rarely drop in replacements. Many articles have been written on the subject but the simple explanation is to ensure the door closes without any seals or restrictions. Then start adding seals ensuring the door continues to shut properly after each new ...

Re: Brake Master Cylinder rebuild
Steve Final thought on this....hopefully. I don't believe it matters a wit how this seal goes together to the point where the parts diagram is probably correct. As long as that large cupped or lip seal is enclosed in the large bearing and capped off by the plastic washer it should function as descri...

Re: Brake Master Cylinder rebuild
Steve,
I reread your message. The large cup seal is in the large bearing recess and the plastic washer encloses it. Right? So really what is happening is this cupped washer is the fluid seal for the shaft and the o-ring is the seal for the bore. Right?

Re: Brake Master Cylinder rebuild
Steve Many thanks for your efforts and now we're getting somewhere. I had the large bearing with o-ring backwards. Essentially the large plastic washer covers the recess of the large bearing which faces the rear. So where does the large cupped seal go (the piece in the photo laying on the towel) ? I...

Re: Brake Master Cylinder rebuild
Thank you Steve This shouldn't be that hard but it's still confusing to me. The large washer that came out of this master cylinder was steel and was the last item in the stack before the circlip. This has to be wrong. I believe that washer should be plastic or nylon. Right? What I question is the or...

Brake Master Cylinder rebuild
For the 4.2 brake master cylinder, there seems to be conflicting information showing the order of the internals. The diagram in the rebuild kit shows a different order of the parts as compared to the parts book and the Bently book. I don't care to follow how the cylinder came apart since so much was...

Re: Brake Bleeding
Thanks again for your thoughts, Marek Not so sure I need to color the fluid because the excess fluid can only come from one place. Since this is such a new installation I'm inclined to try and bleed brakes again and possibly the seal is setting. Otherwise no big deal to take the booster cylinder out...

Brake Bleeding
Thank you Marek. That seems to make sense. I rebuilt that booster and it's very possible that I got the seal wrong or didn't install it at all or it was a bad seal from the kit.
I'm wondering if this issue would not be a problem once the brakes are bled out and the system is closed. Thoughts?

Neglected to mention that this is a 65 FHC.

Brake Bleeding
From doing a search on this topic, much has been discussed but I find nothing that addresses this current issue. After a complete rebuild of the brake system (new lines, rebuilt cylinders and calipers) I am filling the system for the first time with brake fluid and beginning the bleeding process. Th...

Re: Wiper parking frustration
Thank you, David
I will consider sourcing the DL3A. From what I have read on previous posts, do I understand correctly that if that green/red wire in the vicinity of the middle wiper were grounded, the wiper motor would stop?

Wiper parking frustration
Greetings all Although I note the wiper parking subject has been addressed many times, I find nothing that specially relates to my situation. I'm in the final throws of a complete rebuild of a 1965 FHC and while checking the various electric systems, learn that the wipers work but when the switch is...

Re: Seal fitting directions - pictures please
Jan This morning I was preparing a post to ask seal (rubbers) questions and did a quick search prior to sending and found your post. I am at this very stage with my 65 FHC. The previous owner seemed to use any seal available from a generic seal catalog. The usual parts suppliers are not helpful. My ...

My mistake for not indicating this is a 1965 FHC. There is a threaded steel boss welded in place just below the quarter windows on both sides. The new interior panels have been notched to accommodate this boss and it appears there should be a chrome piece that slips over to cover the boss and "dress...

Shoulder harness bolt
Good day, All Apparently there is a chrome escutcheon (spelling?) that fits around this shoulder harness bolt under the quarter window. Jag P/N BD.24411 I can not find this and possibly it was never there when I got the car. This item does not seem to be available from the usual sources. Would it be...

Thanks to some of these ideas this job completed quickly. For future reference, the key to this job is to leave the rear eared piece hanging on the bar forward of the splines, insert the front splines first and then fit the rear piece. The instructions that come with the adjustable reaction plate ar...

Thanks for responses. Steve, I note your technique is per the manual with the non adjustable reaction plate. This I may try although I wonder if it will then be difficult to then get the rear adjuster into place. As I say the front and rear receiving splines seem to be out of plane. Will give it the...
