Re: Oil pressure gauge

Agreed that the presence of oil is not an indication of sufficient pressure, but that isn’t what I said/wrote.

Re: Oil pressure gauge

I have a selection of senders, each reading a different range of values. The one on the car has been reasonably consistent since fitted, but even it has ‘moments’. On the same journey it can read under 40lbs and almost 50 lbs at the same revs, depending on how it feels. Others swear by a mechanical ...

60 E-Types

Apparently, at next weekend’s Silverstone Classic 60 chosen examples will take part in a parade around the circuit to mark the 60th anniversary. Last night I got pinged by the NHS test and trace system, so I won’t be able to witness the event. Ten years ago I was one of the 767 that took part in the...

Re: 1961 or 1962?

“ In the uk, date of registration is its official year ”. Without a Heritage Certificate none of us would be any the wiser. Once I had a HC for my car it could have two birthdays - its official birthday in October, marking the date of its registration, and its ’real’ birthday in February marking the...

Re: Camshaft question

“....locking wires look good .....”.

Nope, not to me. I agree with Robsan.

As shown in that photo the wire doesn’t lock. When two bolts heads are locked together they must be wired with a double twisted strand in a Z shape.

Re: Wheel spinner quality.

The spinner was still firmly attached to the wheel as it overtook the stricken car. Broken stub axle was my thought.

As I passed the SC Parts stall at the FOS and saw a huge display of spinners for various cars including Jaguars, I thought of this thread.

Re: Series 1 2+2 roof aerial

I’ve said this before....... In my car the radio / CD player is never switched on. Not ever. There are a number of reasons. The E-Type cabin is one of the noisiest at speed of any car I have ever owned. There is no sound deadening under the bonnet, nor around the gearbox, and only some very old mate...

Re: Pink Floyd

Obscured by clouds.

I have been posting on Jag-Lovers about single malts, having just emptied a bottle a Glenfiddich 8year old which had the price label still on it. £4.15. I think it was bought in the 1980s. Full bottles of the same are now changing hands at over £200.

Re: Radiator - re-core or replace

Re core cost me about the same as an aluminium replacement. I went for originality. I won’t be doing that next time, which will be quite soon.

Meanwhile, I’ll just drive the car, but take a gallon can with premixed radiator fluid on long journeys (like up to 1000 miles).

Re: Radiator fan didn’t come on

I’ve said this before, and it is worthwhile repeating. Our cars are old. All of the components are old. We are taxing these components way beyond their design or expected sunsets. We should treat them accordingly. My car has its original design otter switch, and a Kenlowe switch, and a manual overri...

Re: Period look radio for 68 2+2

I bought a new radio for my 67 2+2, fitted rear speakers, used the original fronts. I never turn it on. The sound is awful, the original speakers resonate in their mounts, the rear speakers sound like they are from a 1960s trannie radio. And besides, I want to hear the car when I drive. I want to li...

One should, more correctly, refer to this days as its debut, rather than its birthday. The cars revealed in Geneva were already ‘born’.

If this was my car........

I’d buy new tyres for the new rims. I’d sell the old tyres to someone else. There will always be a buyer.

Re: Hot & Bothered Gears and Starter

When my car graunched when selecting reverse I thought it was air in the hydraulic line (it wasn’t). I thought it was out of adjustment (it wasn’t). I thought it was a poor slave cylinder (it wasn’t). I thought it was the wrong length push rod (it wasn’t). I thought it was the master cylinder (yup, ...

I fitted a motorcycle alarm to my E soon after I bought it. Small, easily hidden, does all that is required. And I have a cheap as chips tracker, the sort parents are encouraged to insert in their kids backpacks. It sends text messages when asked where it is. Only ongoing cost for the tracker is to ...

I know of more than one S1 2+2 with a manual box which has a chassis number ending in BW. Mine was originally manual, and still is.

Re: Steering rack rebuild or buy a new one?

The Weak point of the rack on my car was the passenger side bush. It is too far from the grease nipple, gets dry and wears. It cost me a few quid, plus a few hours pulling the rack, and while it was out a fitted new mounts. That was when I discovered yet another bodge by the PO (a well known and now...
