Next question: Have honed/deglazed all the cylinders. There were some slight ring groves about 3/8ths" below the top. After cleaning/honing all the cylinders, all cylinders measures 3.633 near the top, crosswise and slightly less lower in the cylinders; 3.627 +/- None of the piston manufacturers pri...

I've tried not to ask too many questions. I have everything apart. I am unable to find any instructions for replacing the valve guides. Remember that I have a 1971,2 or 3 XJ6 head. The valves and seats are in excellent shape. However, it would be foolish to not so the guides. From what I have seen, ...

Help with engine number.
I have a 69 coupe that I am starting to restore. The engine BLOCK number says C34750 FF. It's right below head gasket, carb side of engine, rearward. As I recall, I think it's from a 73 XJ6. But i'd like to confirm before starting to order parts. I think the internal parts are same as the 69, but wi...

I have everything out except 2 pistons. I have the block upright and the tops filled with PB to soak for a while. They are both about 3/4" from the top...all the rings on all the pistons are frozen, The pistons actually look good but I will replace them and the pins. The four empty cylinders have no...

Well.. You've done it again! Thank you. I'm always concerned about "forcing something" and screwing it up. I have the manual but even the diagram doesn't show enough detail to tell if there is something behind the upper sprocket that's holding it on the plate? I had to go about things the wrong way ...

Lower timing chain removal?
Good day. I have just removed the engine on my 69 coupe as part of a bdy off restoration. I have the pan off and all main and rod bearing caps oloosened. However, after a day and a half to remove the damper in order to get the timing cover off, I can not figure out how to get the lower chain off. It...

Excellent! I was a little worried. It's going to be quite a bit of money and work to do the car and I really didn't want to add a new head to it! Since I have you on....as I wrote in another thread, the engine I have in it now is from a 73 xj6. It was given to me by a friend when the original thru t...

Broken Spark plug!
69' coupe. Just beginning the restoration. Has been sitting for 30 years wrapped up indoors. I sprayed every compound known including 50/50 acetone/power steering fluid and let sit for 4 days. I gave a tug with socket and breaker bar and the first one broke clean at the bottom of the socket portion....

Change of engine block - what now?
Hello. I've just begun a series II 69' coupe restoration. After a blown ring in about 1980 that chewed up the cylinder and head, I was offered a complete engine from a 73' XJ6 from a friend who was doing a v8 conversion. I put in that block, complete with heads, cams etc. In the meantime, 4 kids and...

Headlight trim rivets
Good day To All. I'm beginning a total restore of my 1969 coupe. As I separated all the bonnet pieces, I hesitated with the headlight boxes because of the unique rivets that serve to hold the chrome trim pieces also. I went ahead and cut the rivets off and pulled them out, figuring that they MUST be...
