Re: Nice one. 29k Series one 3.8 for sale

GOOD POINT DAVID! Here's another challenge I will make, that no one anywhere can come up with a coupe-style wider-backed 3.8 seat with the earlier more upright rake to it (unless maybe they've got one that was so rusty it was welded back together at the wrong angle or something).

Re: Nice one. 29k Series one 3.8 for sale

Andrew, I thank you for a kind and reasonable response, it was appreciated. Angus, I think when a forum moderator starts talking about, what was it, "indisputable evidence" (never a term I used) instead of perhaps actually considering the proposed information on its own merits, it sounds a bit like ...

Re: Nice one. 29k Series one 3.8 for sale

Christopher, 9600 HP had square-backed seats of a prototype nature that were/are unlike either the production coupe or roadster seats. Since everyone here seems to just want to attack my information rather than consider it on its own merits (why not take up my challenge about producing documentation...

Re: Nice one. 29k Series one 3.8 for sale

Andrew, with all due respect, I don't think you've carefully read my comments here, nor do you seem to recall similar comments I made on a thread you were involved in on 3.8 fixed head seats awhile back. I have specifically stated that 3.8 fixed head coupe seats were ALL the narrow-backed OTS style ...

Re: Nice one. 29k Series one 3.8 for sale

I extend my above challenge to include anyone being able to produce a verifiable original factory photo of a 3.8 coupe with OTS style seats, and the later interior having armrests, door on the center console, and no aluminium dash fascia, even if you cannot provide a chassis number or production dat...

Re: Nice one. 29k Series one 3.8 for sale

Angus, unfortunately Mick and Eric are mistaken about this. I challenge you or anyone here to produce an original factory photo of a 3.8 FHC with OTS style seats, and a known chassis number or production date that corresponds to, let's say, the second half of production. Likewise with verified low m...

Re: Nice one. 29k Series one 3.8 for sale

There was only one style of E-type seats, the same for both open and closed cars, through about the first third of FHC production. This fact Is routinely corroborated when untouched original cars appear, such as the one in this thread, and by the numbers of coupe owners who comment, as here, that th...

Re: Series 1.5 Headlamp Buckets

Arron, the open headlight late series one bonnet, and headlight arrangement, and all associated parts, are the same as the series 1 1/2 1968 bonnets. No differences.

For roadsters, the accommodation on the body for both versions of latches probably continued for somewhere around a thousand more cars (total LHD and RHD) after the outside latches. Don't think it's actually documented anywhere.

Isn't that part of the fun of owning a vintage British car: Being able to smell those exhaust fumes, petrol fumes, engine fumes, or the delightful combination of them all?

johng, your question here really made me laugh. That's because some years ago, I used a series 2 fhc for about 40,000 miles of everyday driving, including some extended traveling, and one trip alone of almost 14,000 miles. During this time I was never able to completely solve the problem of exhaust ...

E-ways, to respond to your original questions: The reasons not to weld the flanges to the outer bonnet skin include possible distortion, possible future diminished resale value since it won't be seen as correct, and the fact that it is not necessary structurally. But the primary reason not to is tha...

All I can tell you Paul is that the cars do not seem to have ever left the factory this way, but when I ordered a replacement panel (from Jaguar) in the 80s it did. We assumed it was to more accurately position the flanges, since they weren't assembling the inner panels at the same time, or maybe ev...

Paul, The bonnet center sections with glued seams and spot welds at the ends only were later factory replacement parts. Not sure why they did it this way. So your center panel was probably replaced at some point. -Mark

Jeremy, I don't think I've ever even seen the rubber plugs still in place on a US car. Certainly not still in place, but just drilled or screwed through. They are there to plug the holes when NOT being used to mount a US style "license plate". Angus is a bit mistaken also, the access behind the plat...

Yves, The bumper in your photo is a later series one part, David is not correct about them all being the same. The 3.8 bumper bolts on from the inside of the bonnet, with the nut welded onto a plate in the bumper blade. The one shown bolts on from the outside, with the nut part of a bracket in the b...

Alan and David, this is one of the very early features that did not change after just 500 cars. Body-coloured sugar scoops roughly coincide with the 'welded-louver' bonnets, which continued through at least most of the run of flat-floor cars. Whether or not Jaguar had complaints about the lighting, ...

Originally they were a straight silver-grey metallic, NOT hammertone, unless it's a flat-floor car in which case they are body colour.

Radiomobile Amp

You do all realize, don't you, that when the Service Bulletin refers to trimming felt from under and behind the heat sink, and possibly trimming the carpet, that they are talking about an underseat amplifier location. There is a very large heat sink across the top of the amp (see photo on the fourth...

Radiomobile Amp

Dave, don't be so quick to dismiss the underseat amplifier as non-factory or the product of a sloppy installer, there is precedent for this and behind the seat Radiomobile amplifier installation in other jaguar models. And while the location of Ray's (non-factory) AutoAire amp unit may offer suggest...
