Clutch master cylinder problem

I have just had replaced my clutch master cylinder on my S2 which was leaking from the seal. Rather than try a repair kit i foolishly bought a new one and was assured that it would fit. The pedal now seems much weaker in pushdown than it did before fitting and the take up of the clutch is just a few...

Re: Boot release will not open?

Success at last! I tried the screwdriver method suggested by Simon but whilst could feel the cable it would not move any further. In desperation i managed to peel back the boot lid seal a bit and with the wedges in place between the lid and the body there was just enough room to poke a flat BBQ skew...

Re: Boot release will not open?

Both good ideas by Tony and Tim. It was working fine until I stopped at the ferry terminal and put the hood cover into the boot. it was pretty full of luggage when I closed it. A few mins later ( car had not moved) I went to open it and it was jammed. I am always cautious about putting cases away fr...

Re: Boot release will not open?

Thanks for the pics. Will let you know how I get on ( hopefully tomorrow). Just to be clear I assume that once you get the screwdriver blade up against the cable you are effectively pushing the cable inwards thus hopefully releasing the mechanism? As i have said when i use the boot release from insi...

Re: Boot release will not open?

Thanks 288gto that would be very useful. Just to be certain mine is a series 2 Roadster. I have looked at other postings and they are mostly for a series 1. Thank you for your help and hope it will work.
Regards

Re: Boot release will not open?

Thanks for the speedy response. I think i have jammed maybe a part of the hood cover against the lock and this is topping it from opening. Tried your number 1 and it is not that, also definitely not your number 2 either as seals etc are quite old. Number 3 sounds more likely but strange that when it...

Boot release will not open?

Have just returned from a long trip and find that I cannot open the boot on my roadster S2. All the luggage etc is inside and i fear I may have closed it and perhaps jammed something that will not let me release the catch. I can pull the opening handle from inside the car and the boot clicks up mayb...

Re: Horn works with ignition switched off but not when switched on?

Thanks for all the help and apologies for the delay in responding. After following all the advice etc it turned out that even though the wiring for the horn had been routed via an alternative switch connections were incorrect. After a bit of training on using a multimeter the problem has been solved ...

Re: Horn works with ignition switched off but not when switched on?

Thanks for response been out today but just checked and have 12V on C2.
Nothing on C1
Await response, but thanks for your patience, I am no wiring expert as you can see but it would have helped if bits had been put back in the right place during the respray!

Re: Horn works with ignition switched off but not when switched on?

What I thought was the alternator relay turns out to be the horn relay. The problem is that in the past the car was fully dismantled for a full respray but some of the various parts/wiring etc whilst being put back are not in the correct place so difficult to follow using the manuel. Also it really ...

Re: Horn works with ignition switched off but not when switched on?

Thanks for the quick response, certainly drier inside the garage than out! Will go through it again asap and see if it solves the problem. Assume that i only need the 2 relays is correct and Jaguar workshop manual is wrong?? Will let you know how it progresses, appreciate your help, but coming round ...

Horn works with ignition switched off but not when switched on?

I have a problem where the horn works fine when the ignition is off but not when turned on. Have changed the relay( 6RA) as assumed this was faulty and done the checks with test lights as per Haynes manual and also Jaguar service manual, but still not working. Original horns have been replaced in th...

Horn wiring problem

Have been having a tidy up of dash wiring etc (as have a rev counter problem) and now have a problem with the horn. It was all working fine before hand but now it only works when the ignition is switched off but does NOT work with the ignition switched on? Have checked the circuit etc and it all see...

Starter motor/ Rev counter

I have a 69 which is fitted with the pre engaged starter M45G ( presumably). I have a problem where if you crank the engine and it does not fire when you turn the key back it sounds as though the starter is still turning and it takes time to spin until it stops ( even with the key switched off). Bef...

Recommended garage??

Am not sure if this is in the correct section but am looking for an independent garage who has the capabilities for tuning SU carbs / changing rear shocks / general servicing etc . I live on the Surrey/ Sussex border (in the GU27 postcode if that helps) and whilst there a few around it is hard to fi...

Electronic Ignition

I am sure this has been covered over the past few years but there seems to be much confusion over which is the best and MOST reliable electronic ignition to fit to the E Type Series 2. Electronics have improved greatly in the auto industry so would appreciate any input/ advice from long term users a...

Squeaking drivers side rear wheel

I have a squeaking rear wheel which sounds as though it could be a bearing but the noise dissappears if you just touch the brake pedal. I have recently had the rear handbrake calipers and disc replaced BUT this was happening before I got all this done so it cannot be just the new pads wearing in? Se...

Have dismantled the top covering of the gearbox and can see that there is a bolt on the drivers side of the gearbox which is almost at the top of the gearbox casing. I see that there is no access hole as per the passenger side that will allow you to undo the bolt hence your comments reaccess underne...
