On my S2, the ignition warning (red) light is controlled by the 3AW relay near the battery. There are 3 cables to/from the 3AW relay - a) An input from direct from the alternator, when the alternator is running this carries an alternating current and I measured about 9V at a fast idle b) A cable dir...

Thanks Peter. Current state of play with mine is that the head came off relatively easily. Just heavy because I left the inlet and exhaust manifolds on as "handles". Head gasket was clean, no evidence of blowing through anywhere. New gasket ordered. At the bottom end the sump is "free" (well, sittin...

Chaps, I think I'm trying to do the same thing. Do I need (as the book says) to remove the front pulley to get the sump off? I don't want to, but is it possible to get away without? Presently my No1. & 6 Pistons are near TDC, my head (and cams) are off, and because there is no thread on the end of c...

Thanks for your replies chaps. I pointed the manufacturer at them, and his reply via email to me was: "the CWL doesn't need to connect to the alternator. It's a small computer constantly measuring and analysing system voltage and can figure out if the alternator is working from that analysis. The CW...

3AW Relay alternative.

I thought I'd do a little write up about something I've made work on my car, not because its particularly earth shattering but mostly because of the excellent customer service I received for an order of <?20 delivered. Problem: My ignition warning light didnt work, and the problem wasnt the lamp! Di...

Not that it adds anything to the party - but my 1970 Ex-USA FHC has 1 Leaper badge. The other has fallen apart during the former keepers tenure.

So, some say ON, some say OFF, I've gone a middle way, with only 1.

Thanks chaps I shall proceed as directed! :D My list is getting shorter. Provided I dont get any more irritations like the handbrake lever clevis pin, I <might> even be going for MOT next week. Maybe. As for Redline, I use that in m'Ferrari. Traditionally 2nd gear is tough to get until there is some...

Gearbox Oil Change... can I go in the top?

Chaps, Am mid way through a speedo cable change and as such I've the transmission tunnel apart. On my list is "change gearbox oil" and now is a good time. I know the manual says to go in via a filler on the left hand side, but is there any harm me filling via the top. Eg via the brass plug to the le...

I've done no more with fueling issue that caused me to start the thread (except there is a new pump sitting in the boot ready for fitting) but I am a good way on the road to sorting the Otter switch and the subsequent damage I did to my radiator. Whilst I was happy to sort the 3 studs to the Otter s...

I'm sorry I can't remember the actual insurer mine is covered with (also an Ex-USA model being recommissioned) but its on a "laid up" policy - paperwork is at home, but I'm not. Most of the insurers I spoke to couldn't get their head round no number plate (and I didn't know the US one at that stage ...

Re: Number plates question

I have just imported a 1969 2+2 from the US and will be registering it in UK soon. Does anyone know if there are any legal restrictions (DVLA) to putting an adhesive number plate on the bonnet and a raised silver and black plate at the back? Many thanks, Bernie. I read once, not sure where, that th...

Wow. The boiling out with Alum is really cool. I hope I don't need to do that, but it sounds exciting!.

Wow... lots of stuff to reply to. Fuel - there was a definite tide mark in the glass bowl, fuel had gone somewhere. I suspected, because it fitted the data, air leak somewhere, tank lower than the filter, adequately venting tank, hence air entering and allowing the fuel to flow . But, you are right ...

Again, thanks all. Tank vent - I don't know if that works or not, but I get the same issue if I leave the filler cap off. So I suspect it does Carb Setup - maybe it just "off" a bit , I'll certainly have a better look next time I;m working in that parish. And I'll definitely take you chap's guidance...

. for the fuel: you assume some fuel goes back to the tank but have you checked it does'nt drip below the carbs ? . for the otter swithc I also broke one of the 3 studs; it seems ok to run with only 2; still, access is OK with the bonnet only fully bent forward (and car lifted on front), I wouldn't...

Sorry, I was assuming SU carbs. Perhaps I should have guessed you had Strombergs being a USA car. I have no experience of them so someone else will have to advise you. That's OK. Thanks though. Have more thinking time on the fuel thing now... broke a stud on the otter switch, and so the radiator is...
