Re: Camshaft Cover Nuts
Thanks all for your help. It is the cam cover smaller domed chrome nuts I am referring to. I was aware of the criticality of the cylinder head nuts and just wanted to be sure there was no similar issue with the Cam cover nuts. In addition, unlike the head nuts I couldn't find any torque settings sta...

Re: Camshaft Cover Nuts
Hi Dave many thanks for the fast response much appreciated. I assume you are referring to not running the engine until the nut is replaced. I don’t suppose you know the torque setting for these nuts, as I can’t seem to see it referenced in the Service manual?

Camshaft Cover Nuts
Hi All, I need to remove one of the domed nuts retaining the inlet camshaft cover to allow removal of the HT lead clip secured by one of these nuts. This is to allow replacement of the Leads. Can this nut simply be unscrewed and re screwed in place with no issue over torque settings etc or is there ...

Re: Starting woes
Thanks for the responses Guys, much appreciated. I do have my old original starter which I may retro fit. Will also check the earthing. Problem is of course its very intermittent.

Re: Starting woes
Hi Steve, Many thanks for the response. Although the Starter is relatively new I am beginning to suspect it too. To be honest I do not know what make the unit is, it was replaced by a very reputable E Type specialist along with several other bits and pieces I wanted doing a couple of years back. Pro...

Re: Starting woes
Further investigations now suggests two problems. The latter issue of the engine dying as soon as the ignition switch returns to on from start has been fixed. This was down to a damaged crimp connector on the Ballast Resister. Once this was repaired the engine started as it should. I suspect whilst ...

Starting woes
Hi All, Experiencing what appears to be a morphing starting issue. Initially and only occasionally when starting my S2, the solenoid would either click or chatter but the starter motor would not turn. The starter motor is a relatively new high torque unit and the battery brand new. Sometimes doing n...

Pop Rivets

Does anyone know the pop rivet size used for fixing the under bonnet rubber seals to the mud gaurds?
Thanks

Re: Heater Resistor
Thanks David that looks the same as my damaged resistor so it does look to be the original. Have now purchased the replacement smaller cylindrical type from SNG which has different fixing so need to work out the best way of mounting it.

Re: Heater Resistor
Thanks Guys. I had assumed that my resistor was original due to its age and the dedicated fixing mounts on the motor casing but perhaps not. The battery is another issue and I was going to do a separate post. It’s a Bosch 56 Ahr unit but is now about 6 years old. The car is only occasionally used an...

Re: Heater Resistor
Many thanks for the response Marek, much appreciated. Actually the reason for the resistor braking was down to my battery effectively “blowing its top” (for reasons that escape me but that’s another story) and breaking the resistor. It wasn’t the resistor itself that failed. As per my original post,...

Heater Resistor
Hi All, The heater resistor on my 1970 S2 has cracked in two. I suspect it is the original ie wide and flat as opposed to the replacement cylindrical types. The resistance wire however still seems in tact, as a consequence I wondered can the ceramic type casing simply be glued back together? Do thes...

Re: Ignition light Issue
Thanks Geoff and Bill for your further comments and information. The 3AW unit I have fitted is indeed an aftermarket unit and looks to be one of the two options supplied by SNG. I thought it would be a simple and cheap first step to replace the bushes as suggested. Unfortunately, SNG and Martin Robb...

Re: Ignition light Issue
Hi Dave, Ash and Malcom, Many thanks for taking the time to reply. This is a new fault and has just started this week. The 3aw unit is I suspect not original. It’s a small 1” or so cubic plastic unit with a potted base and three flying leads exiting it located as Ash stated. I understand it is effec...

Ignition light Issue
Hi All, Looking for some help again. My red ignition light has suddenly started to flash, albeit faintly and intermittently when the engine is running. The voltage gauge seems to indicate all is ok with the battery charging which to me suggests the alternator is working. All other electrics seem to ...

Many thanks John - I had had similar thoughts to those posted. Do we now how they were fixed by the factory.
