Re: Handbrake Cable Series 1 2+2 run out of adjustment
I suppose the better question is, if you remove the bolts [4 I think] holding the handbrake to the driveshaft tunnel does that allow you to bring the cable attachment inside the vehicle so you can unhook it or is it typically etype and not so easy? I am assuming of course you need to detach the axle...

Re: Handbrake Cable Series 1 2+2 run out of adjustment
Hi Steve, I personally think its too long given there is slack before you even start pulling the rear levers. If I order a new cable is there any way to get to the handbrake end by just removing the cubby or does the whole console have to come out? The car is complete and in a good place now. My exp...

Handbrake Cable Series 1 2+2 run out of adjustment
Hi, I am struggling to work out a problem with my handbrake. Its the last problem in my 10 year build process. All of the braking system is new and its a new handbrake cable. The handbrake nips up at the extreme but not enough to hold the car on a hill for instance. I have been under the car and it ...

Issue with ignition light and other related or perhaps unrelated issues
Hi, I wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction. I am working on the very last few remaining issues on my 1966 series 1 2+2 after a 10 year total restoration. From the moment the car was first started the ignition light has stayed on. Being a total restoration all the electrics were new t...

Steering Geometry
My series 1 etype 1966 is finally on the road after a full rebuild but the steering is extremely heavy so it really needs a thorough geometry check. I have a booking at the Surrey Jag Centre but its not until September. I was wondering if there is anyone that can be trusted in West Sussex, East Suss...

Re: Gearbox sounds and worries
Hi Andrew, Looking back at all the receipts from the last ten years. I bought the box and overdrive from Clayton Classics in Coventry. It came from a customers car who was changing to a five speed box amongst other upgrades. Clayton Classics assured me that the box was quiet but advised me to have t...

Re: Gearbox sounds and worries
Hi Steve, Spoke to the really helpful guys at Overdrive Repairs in Sheffield who rebuilt my overdrive originally. They felt with such short mileage and at low speed that the residual oil in the overdrive should have been enough to have saved it if indeed I have run without oil. Obviously the noise f...

Re: Gearbox sounds and worries
Hi Rob, I am reading more and more and am somewhat more hopeful considering the shifts on the car were all smooth it just developed the whine which is when I stopped driving of course. I have ordered everything and we will see if the sound goes away and the overdrive is still healthy. Given they wer...

Gearbox sounds and worries
I have a series 1 with a manual box and Laycock Compact A overdrive. This is a 2+2 hence I able to fit the overdrive. The car was rebuilt over the last ten years but in the first 8 years by so called specialists and in the last 2 years I have been finishing or fixing what they did. It is a beautiful...

Head bolt torque Series 1 4.2 1966
After some help again please. I need to re-torque my head bolts as the engine has been started and warmed up but not used for several years and I am soon to finish the build. There was evidence of a very small bit of overboarding of water when it was first run and it has not been retorqued since the...

Re: Front Brake Caliper issues
Thanks for all your help guys. I have managed to work out that the rear brake pad retainer should fit so I have ordered to find out for sure. I will then have to work out if everything is aligning etc.. but it all seems good and the discs run freely with the pads in place and the brakes can be appli...

Front Brake Caliper issues
I am trying to finish the last things on me Series 1 1966 etype. The problem is each time I tackle something I uncover poor or unscrupulous. Things have proven fixable but everything takes twice as long as I am undoing and redoing trying not to ruin finished paint etc.. My latest woe is the discover...

Re: xke quarter window FHC same as 2 +2 ????
Hi, Potters Jaguar tend to have these. They are often at Stoneleigh for instance. I also picked up a 2+2 one (not suitable for yours) from the US. Be aware that there were some changes to the latch over the period of manufacture so if you are a purist a rechrome could be better but there is risk of ...

Re: 123 Ignition Question
Thats perfect information. It will keep the loom tidier, I hate adding extra wires if its not necessary plus using a wire that has the correct color code is less confusing for someone who revisits later.

123 Ignition Question
Hi, I know there are some threads around similar questions which I have read. I have a series 1 1966 and the rev counter has been modified to generate directly from the coil. This is a single cable solution. The rev counter will have a seperate switched feed and earth as part of the standard loom (R...
