Re: Cylinder Head Woes

Hi, I had a similar problem on my 3.8, tried absolutely everything, fuel pump, distributor (123), plugs were about a month old so did not try those. Took it to a specialist garage, and they tried everything I did - compression test etc. It turned out to be a dodgy spark plug, even though they were n...

Crankshaft Damper

Hello All,
Crankshaft Damper seemed to delaminate today. Obviously I need a new one. Should I sick with standard type, or go for one of the Harmonic Dampers? The engine is standard tune 1962 3.8. Just wondering if it is worth the expense. Thanks very much.

Re: Motoring through southern England

Hi Glen, You can pre-book on line with Wightlink Isle of Wight Ferry to be sure of a place in the summer at holiday time. (That is from Lymington.) You need to arrive 15 minutes before the sailing time, and it will take you to Yarmouth on the Island in 35 minutes. If you want to stay on the Island T...

Re: Motoring through southern England

Hello Glen, I live five minutes from Beaulieu, so let me know if I can be of any assistance to you. I also would recommend Bucklers Hard, and the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu. Nearby to Lymington Hurst Castle at Keyhaven is also worth a look. You can get a car ferry from Lymington (15 minutes f...

Re: Calling all Opalescent Gunmetal owners

Hello,
Obviously I am slightly biased, but mine is Opalescent Silver Grey (which is a darker tone than it sounds), with Oxblood Red interior with alloy dash, an FHC. Colour offsets chrome really well. Very understated.
Regards, Chris.

Re: 3.8 seats in a 4.2 ?

Good Evening, I have an early 62 FHC. I bought the car with some very nice 4.2 seats in which were very comfortable, but I felt they were not quite right. I purchased some new period correct 3.8 seats. I fitted them, and although I am not overly tall, my head was touching the roof, and most annoying...

Re: Faulty clutch master cylinder

Hi Seve, Thanks for your reply. Do you think I will have to take the push rod off of the yolk and push it back or may be a small screwdriver in by the side of the rod? Yes I do have a spring on the return, and as for adjustment about 1 - 2 mm freeplay on the rod. I will have a play tomorrow. Thanks.

Faulty clutch master cylinder

Good Morning All, My name is Chris. I seem to have a bit of a problem with my clutch. It is on an early 3.8 FHC. I recently replaced the master cylinder on the clutch. The replacement part was genuine Gerling part. I replaced and bled system. After test drive, the clutch was playing up again. I re-b...

Re: Cylinder Head Specialist required Hampshire area.

Hi,
I had a very similar experience with my cylinder head on my 3.8. Would it be a machine shop just outside of Winchester. They also just topped the valves and all the shims were undersized. I was not happy at all.

Re: Front cross member jacking wood

Hi Simon, I use a timber called iroko - very hard, very durable, looks just like teak. I keep mine permanently in place in the cross member. I don't know if you are going to Goodwood on Sunday, or are ever in the New Forest, if so I could machine it to the appropriate dimensions for you as I have pl...

 Morning Chaps, Success this morning - borrowed endoscope and found culprit. Any suggestions?

Evening all, my name is Chris. I am new to the forum, but having owned by 3.8 fixed head for 12 years - I have a problem and wondered if anyone had any good ideas. Whilst undoing number 3 spark plug, the porcelain must have cracked inside the spark plug spanner and, guess what, a bit dropped into th...
