Re: Restoration finish of suspension wishbones

A bit late of for those who desire to "touch up" their suspension components, S3 E-types left the factory with White Cadium plated components. Dick Russ points that out in his book detailing original E-types found un-restored. CAD plating comes with some cautions. First, the surface must be CLEAN. B...

S3 E-type Steering Column

Researching information and need UK based S3 owners help. Trying to ascertain who (or how many) manufacturers were involved in making the upper steering column(s) for Jaguar. Some information I've found so far: One column was stamped Mfg by Saginaw. My take is Saginaw gear division UK? Another set o...

Re: Series 3 Oil Pressure Gauge

71 V12, Easy enough to do, swapping face plates but any idea what the wet gauge calibration is? To my thinking the gauge now just tells you whether or not you have oil pressure - correct? Readings: No pressure, a little pressure, higher pressure and real high pressure. Please let us know what you di...

Re: Stromberg Bypass Valve setup

All great replies. I was confronted with setting these valves several years ago. Made a specific test box with calibrated vacuum gauge and variable vacuum source to calibrate them. Bypass Valve - Original from 1974 Bypass Valve repair kit (minus diaphragm) New diaphragm. Original tension spring Here...

Re: Floor Pan Coating

I was faced with the same problem after replacing both floors in my '74 OTS. I wanted to reapply material that closely matched the original for (1) appearance and, most importantly (2) for sound attenuation. It doesn't really do much for keeping out heat! Found a company here in the USA, Great South...

Re: Mystery heat shield

Shield assembly, C35781, is comprised to two parts. The part you display is riveted to a frame. The frame is attached above the starter motor, protecting it from exhaust heat. You're missing the frame. https://i.postimg.cc/GmXnMYjp/KGr-Hq-VHJ-0-E7-OE-h-VBP-mo-Iflwg-60-12.jpg Frame your Asbestos mate...

Re: Boot floor series 3

Bob, The original Hardura sound proofing material for Series 3 E-types was a closed cell foam (1/2" thick, readily available) with a black vinyl material bonded to the mat upper surface. I would recommend - strongly - removing the hemp based material you've already installed. It will soak up moistur...

Re: windscreen washer pump

Simon, The little gray Trico pump is the OEM pump. S3 cars did not come with a Lucas washer pump. When the Trico pump became NLA the usual vendors replaced it with the Lucas unit. Lucas is not original. url=https://postimages.org/] https://i.postimg.cc/5NR0wcDv/Trico.jpg [/url] Stay Well and Happy T...

Re: Distributor Flash guard

Indeed, Very good info. Having never experienced work on an EFI motor the Flash Guard makes sense to protect internal electronics. Never too old to learn from other's experiences!!! Question: Does the Official Jaguar XJS Parts manual show a breakdown of the distributor? If so, is a shaft seal depict...

Re: RH fan turns wrong way round - from factory? (SOLVED)

Great.... Kinda thought that was the problem. The fans are basic, pretty bullet-proof but alignment on re-assembly can be overlooked. No mention of the alignment marks in any of the Jaguar literature either!!! Made that error years ago. Noted. Passed along and now happy to have been some assistance....

Re: Distributor Flash guard

Peter, The Flash Guard was not fitted to S3 E-type dizzy units. IHMO Jaguar tried to fix their "mistake" on later XJS and XJ12 motors outfitting them with the Flash Guard. If you have an Official S3 parts manual you'll note there is no depiction for a shaft seal within the dizzy. Trust me, Lucas did...

Re: RH fan turns wrong way round - from factory?

If I were a betting man I'd say a PO has tinkered with the fans, probably replacing the carbon brushes. Try this for a fix. 1. Remove the fan that's running in the wrong direction. 2. Make an alignment mark to the body/cap. 3. Remove the two long screws that hold the body to the end cap. 4. Rotate t...

Re: Air condition

To All, I've complete a thorough investigation, tear down analysis of the switch and will soon publish an article to the various E-type forums (with photo's). For now, Yes, the original RANCO switch may be repaired. In a nutshell, what happens is one (or moreO of the internal contact arms heats up c...
