Re: 2+2 Door Stays - refitting

Yes, that's correct. One of the easier jobs on an E type!

Re: 2+2 Door Stays - refitting

They are easy to remove and replace once the door card has been removed to reveal the two screws in the door that hold them. You don't need to touch the door alignment.
All the best

I think you are referring to Alan Slawson who is based in Essex. He rebuilt my diff expertly recently. I won't give out his address here as he doesn't publish it on his website. However I suggest you call him or email him. Details on his website which are easily found. Hope that helps.

Depends on usage of course. Mine does 18mpg for short journeys or up to 24mpg on long runs. US gallons are less than UK gallons too!

You could try Hardy Engineering in Leatherhead. I had my diff seals replaced there four years ago and they did all that I asked for a reasonable price. However in my ownership the diff was never perfectly quiet so I decided two months ago to have it fully rebuild by Alan at AJS Engineering. There is...

It seems that they are the guys who used to run XRN Engineering workshop. I used XRN four or so years ago to rebuild my Series 2 head. They did a great job for me, very reasonably priced and seemed to have lots of experience with XK heads. I have no connection to them other than as a satisfied custo...

I can't really answer your question but I had my BW8 box on my '69 2+2 rebuilt by G Whitehouse three years ago and at the time they said they could put in a newer box but would need to modify the tunnel. Total cost around ?8K - so I decided it wasn't worth it. I know it's controversial but I actuall...

They rebuilt my S2 head 10,000 miles ago and I've been very pleased with their work. They do lots of triumph stag heads and blocks and generally I believe have a good reputation. Suggest you give them a call to discuss your particular problem. I have no connection with them other than being satisfie...

Either uj's or it could be a tight phosphor bronze bush in the rack. At he left hand end on a rhd car. I had that problem. Ok when cold but once warm it was enough to bind and stiffen the steering up significantly.

Paul Sorry to read of your woes. I once had a Fiat with short behind the dashboard and the arid smoke from the insulation as the loom melted was terrifying. Fortunately the car did NOT catch fire but the loom was ruined. I'm a little surprised it was the earth lead that caused the problem though .. ...

Re: Wiring Tacho with SimonBBC 45D6 distributor and coil

Hi all, After succesfully first started my fully rebuild engine yesterday (soon on YouTube) :D , I noticed the tachometer wasn't working. I was expecting this, because it's an electronic one, simon bbc package: http://www.simonbbc.com/bundle-deals/jaguar-e-type-sports-45d6-electronic-distributor-an...

Thanks Richard. Very interesting that others have had the same problem. I have blasted and painted my original straps and they look pretty good. Interestingly the front and back are indeed different lengths. Not much but enough to matter. I'm still waiting for SNG to get back to me but I'll most lik...

Hi Richard, Welcome to this forum. Have to say I have found this site invaluable. Very helpful people. I think we exchanged emails on the rear exhaust hanger some time ago - that must have been where I saw your straps. I've just spoken to SNG here, who supplied the straps and the exhaust. I referred...

Just to complete this thread I now have a fully sorted brake system. I pressure tested all the rear as suggested by Steve before installing the IRS. Of course it was fine with the new caliper but a good idea to test as it is easy to inspect all the unions with the IRS in the open. I found bleeding t...

Exhaust straps 2+2

After sorting my rear brakes out with the help of this forum I wonder if anyone can offer any views on my next ... and hopefully last(!) challenge. I've a new Bell exhaust system - looks well made, and have purchased new stainless steel straps to support it. Trouble is they are considerably larger t...

Can't see it on your pictures Graham but have you fitted remote bleeders? Hi Dave, I was going to but they weren't available from my supplier - out of stock. When I came to bleed the brakes I was surprised how easy it was through the rear access panels in the car. Not as easy as remote bleeders cer...
