Re: Torsion bar removal
Yep - I love this forum! I’m afraid I’m not doing a full on job. I will clean everything up to a degree with wire wheel etc - 60 years of brake dust mixed with oil on an unrestored 1965 car (we’ve had it a long time).

Re: Torsion bar removal
Many thanks everyone. You have all been tremendously helpful. The main revelation for me is that I can remove the lower wishbone without needing to disconnect the torsion bar at the rear in order to replace my bushes which is all I really need to do. I will report back…

Re: Torsion bar removal
That’s great if possible! I thought the wishbone wouldn’t come off the front and I had to take the full TBs off.

Re: Torsion bar removal
Thanks for the advice. I will try moving the lower wishbone around and down.. I have seen mention elsewhere of the use of a turnbuckle attached to the shock mountings to facilitate the movement of the lower wishbone is this something that you recommend?

Re: Redline mt90 v motul 300
Thanks. I’m afraid demon tweaks etc are in the same boat as everyone else with the mt90 - no stock - website defaults to that message. Thanks for the other spiral suggestion.

Redline mt90 v motul 300
Hi. Can’t get hold of any Redline MT90 for my series 1 4.2 gearbox as there seems to be a world shortage. I have been recommended Motul 300 as a replacement. Anyone have any views?

Re: Stripped sump plug thread
Just to wrap up this thread, I did the job this morning. I drilled it out with a 16.25mm hss bit (went into the baffle inside which was an error but got all the swarf out I hope) and then tapped a new thread with a 5/8 UNF 18, inserted the helicoil and then the old 5/8 sump plug went in like a treat...

Fitting new cooling hoses
Hi
Just going about fitting a set of cooking and heater hoses. Anyone got any tips on how to get the new Ines on smoothly (or at all!)? I'm struggling with the bottom hose and heater return ones behind the carbs. Trying hot water and fairy liquid - anything better?

Re: Stripped sump plug thread
Thanks. I'm going to try to heli coil and get the original back in. Doesn't seem to be much difference between unc and bsw on 5/8 - both 11 turns per inch so a tap for either should work right?

Re: Stripped sump plug thread
Thanks everyone. There is a tiny bit of thread left but I have deliberately pulled as much as possible out so it doesn't go in! Not enough to put a longer 5/8 back in. Will examine 3/4 kit but drawback is lack of originality.

Stripped sump plug thread
I am doing an oil change on my 4.2 series 1 and the sump plug has come out with all the thread from the sump! Do people recommend heli coil or retapping kits to repair? Any in particular? I think it's a 5/8 plug is that right? Any other tips?

Re: Water pump belt
Got it fitted. But not the one I bought from sng. I thought I'd buy one from John Gordon which turned out to be different (included old c suffix in code). This was tight but went on with the alternator detached then reattached. That wouldn't work with the sng one. I'm yet to start her (the battery i...
