Just about to replace my rear radius arm bushes.
From SNGB there is a huge price differential between genuine Jaguar and aftermarket. The smaller bushes are £46.18, or £5.77 each!!
I would normally go for genuine, but with such a difference, would anyone know if it is worth it?
Thank you
Simon

Re: Steering Column
Thanks all, I have covered it in thin polythene, held in place by insulation tape.Incidentally, a new wave washer has taken out play in the column, so a successful job!

Steering Column
Just removed my upper steering column to sort excess play in bearings. The wave washer is missing, so that explains the play, hopefully.
Would anyone know if the collapsible lattice section should have some sort of cover over it as it does seem quite exposed and vulnerable?
Thank you

Re: Wing Mirrors style and fitting
From memory, the LH Mirror was original to the car and in good condition. The RH one was sourced from David Manners. As was mentioned earlier, the similar looking Triumph Stag mirror has a different angle and won’t work. They were manufactured by TEX

Engine oil leak cured
My Series 2 has been suffering from a rear main oil leak for a number of years, but only after a motorway run when thoroughly hot. I have recently changed the engine oil from 20w50 to 20w60 (Westway because of high zddp content). The only spec difference I can see is that 20w60 retains better viscos...

Oil Temperature Warm up
Good Evening
Would anyone know how long it takes for the engine oil to get up to temperature?
Outside temperature 20 deg c, mainly motorway driving at 60-70mph
Thanks

Rear main or Sump Leak?
Good Evening, Could I have opinions as to whether my sump or rear main is leaking please. I powdered the inner face of the flywheel, rear of the sump, reaction plate and bell housing. Then took it on a 15 mile run, including about 7 miles of motorway at constant 60 mph. It should be noted that if I ...

Re: Rear Main Oil Leak
Checked cam feeds, crankcase pressure and thank you. It is possible it is sump, but I assembled it very carefully with new gaskets, seal and sealant. No change in symptoms since before stripping. Today, I have used Talcum Powder to cover the inner flywheel face, and all accessible areas at the rear o...

Rear Main Oil Leak
My S2 OTS has been plagued with an oil leak from the rear main for years now. It leaks only when thoroughly hot after a motorway run but is dry in normal day to day use. The crank has been ground to fit the Terrys oil seal conversion, and checked to be dimensionally correct, also fitted with a new T...
Re: Quickjack
I looked at a Quickjack to help me remove the engine/transmission on my Series 2 OTS. I dismissed it as I didn’t feel there was enough lift and bought a Strongman Clifton Scissor Jack. I too, don’t have much height in my garage. It made engine removal so easy, enables me to have all 4 wheels off the...

Cam Lobe Offset
Has anyone come across a camshaft lobe not being central to the tappet guide?
No 1 exhaust lobe (most rearward), is approx 3mm to the left of central, just enough for the lobe to be touching the guide under certain circumstances, and creating a rattle.
Whether this a faulty camshaft I am not sure?

Re: 4.2 Series 2 Engine Rattle
I think I have at last found the cause of my engine rattle!!! At least one of the exhaust side cam lobes is running perilously close to its follower guide, .001 inch. For the first time I have found a witness marks on the guide from contact, under a magnifying glass. Would anyone know: How close sho...

Re: 4.2 Series 2 Engine Rattle
Hi Simon, Thanks for coming back. I am happy there is sufficient oil flowing. Worn cam verniers are something I haven’t checked, appreciate that. So, if I hold the cam with mole grips,in which direction should I pull/turn the sprockets in order to check for wear? Excuse my ignorance as I am not sure...

Re: 4.2 Series 2 Engine Rattle
Hi Simon
The shims are all between 86 and 95 from memory. I did notice it is very dry of lube around the shim area and assume as the “bucket” is inverted it is quite difficult for oil to get there?
Thank you

Re: 4.2 Series 2 Engine Rattle
Hi Steve, Thanks for coming back and good to hear from you. I have checked timing and carb set up and all fine. I was starting to think “little end” as the noise is throttle sensitive. But the noise appears to be in the upper part of the head. I have tried disconnecting plug leads by turn and the no...

4.2 Series 2 Engine Rattle
Hi All, I have been trying to trace an engine rattle on my E for ages. Top end of engine, only when cold, light pitched rattle from the head area at engine speed, not cam speed, only on the cusp of changing from load to over run.. I have replaced cams and bearings, valve springs, cam followers (shor...

Odometer Stuck
As my E turned 90000 miles, the odometer has stuck at 89999 and a bit. The trip meter has jammed also, however the speedo still works fine.
Would anyone know if this is an easy diy fix or is it necessary to send it away for a refurb to one of the Speedo specialists?
Thank you

Re: Clutch worry.
I had a new clutch fitted to my Series 2 back in 2015, 3000 miles ago. The new clutch always had a low bite point, difficult to engage first gear etc. But not actually dragging. Tried all the usuals, clutch slave, bleeding, operating rod etc. all to no effect. I recently and reluctantly removed the ...
