Re: Engine removal
I'm trusting my engine builder on this, he's been building high-performance E-Type engines for a long time and has done quite a few to this specification with good results. Incidentally, 93 is our highest octane available for highway use here in the US where we use the (RON+MON)/2 method. I think th...

Engine removal
The engine in my '66 FHC was showing signs of needing a rebuild. Low compression in one cylinder, smoking, and most damning of all it would barely register above 20 psi oil pressure. After confirming the low oil pressure with an external gauge I decided it was time. The car has been such a pleasure ...

Re: Can I replace the oil pump without pulling the engine?
Actually, with the change to Castrol 20-50 and the helper shim in the spring relief valve, I'm seeing 30-35 psi now.

Can I replace the oil pump without pulling the engine?
My '66 4.2 FHC is showing low oil pressure, about 15 psi at idle, 20 psi at 2,000 rpm, but it doesn't really climb higher than that. I go by the old 10psi per 1,000 rpm guideline, so I would like to see at least 40 psi, if not 60 at high rpm. Assuming it was a bad sender, I checked the pressure with...

What is this for?
I've been enjoying my recently acquired '66 FHC quite a bit lately. I have it running quite well and it drives very nicely. As I get to know it better I'm coming across occasional items that leave me scratching my head. Most recently, what are these peculiar things in the rear compartment at the top...

Re: Differential whine
Thanks for the advice. I'll not worry about it and replace the diff oil with MTL.

Differential whine
So I'm getting my recently acquired '66 FHC sorted and have been taking it on longer drives and slowly expanding my "Radius of confidence" with it. It's running quite nicely now, but one thing that is a little bit of concern is a fairly loud whine from the differential while under load. It feels fin...

Re: SU Dashpot oil level? - Over-rev between shifts
Thanks so much guys! I think you guys are right. I went through the carb tuning procedure again and did have to weaken the mixture a couple turns on each carb to get the "rise and return". I also made a dipstick out of some brazing rod to measure the oil level. I took one piece and marked the top of...

SU Dashpot oil level? - Over-rev between shifts
So I've rebuilt the triple SU HD8's on my '66 FHC and replaced two bent throttle shafts. I also replaced the worn original linkage with a replacement from SNG Barrat. After a little fettling I got the butterflies to nicely cycle from full throtte and snap shut to full closure. I was able to get the ...

Re: Removing intake manifold S1 FHC
Thanks guys. Yes that's my plan now, remove and repair the carbs. and try to replace the linkage with the manifold in place. Should be easier with the carbs off.

Re: Removing intake manifold S1 FHC
Ughh!!! I just made a couple more 3x2's and had at it one more time. As the second 3x2 gave up and split the hammer deflected and landed between the #2 & #3 carbs bending the throttle shafts!!! 2 won't turn at all and 3 is warped. Now I probably need two new carbs, the aluminum housings could be dam...

What an extremely frustrating couple of days for a crappy rubber bushing!

Removing intake manifold S1 FHC
Hi, So the throttle linkage bushing closest to the bulkhead on my '66 S1 FHC is shot. Initially, I thought this would be a quick and easy repair, but the deeper I got it became apparent that it is far from it. After googling and watching some videos (thanks davejaguar66) I decided to bite the bullet...

New member from the USA
Hello to everyone on the board. I'm a new member here from New Jersey in the USA. I just purchased a '66 FHC. This is my second E-Type, I had a '67 OTS long ago and always knew sooner or later I would have another as they are such wonderful cars. This particular car was restored in 1990 and has seen...
