Re: help with locating possibly stolen parts

That definitely isn't an E Type on the lift. Just look at the curvature of the windscreen and you'll see it is nothing like an E Type screen.

I think Steve's suggestion of it being an XKSS is spot on.

Repro repro….the quality and problems don’t seem to go away…..
That's because most repro manufacturers have neither the wit nor the wisdom to do the job properly.

Annoying, but unfortunately true.

Re: LWE extended wishbone/technical help needed.

115.9 Interesting. How did you arrive at this figure? Surely, you need to know at least 2 of the 3 distances between the inner fulcrums and the distance between the 2 outer fulcrums? It's essentially a 4 bar link to control camber change and we don't know what the camber settings are meant to be fo...

Re: Water temp sender stripped threads

I find that surprising because it is normal practice to fit thread inserts in aluminium parts, especially cast parts. Even more so if the thread is being used to secure a replaceable item, such as a thermostat. It strengthens the thread and makes it much more durable. Also, if galling or corrosion h...

Re: Camshaft alignment in warped cylinder head???

If you do the job properly, you line bore the camshaft bearing journals and fit oversize bearings.

I assume that the reputable engine reconditioners do that. Or maybe they have some other way of getting it true?

Re: Water temp sender stripped threads

All these suggestions are fine but Rory is spot on, as usual. Why over-complicate the problem when replacing the offending helicoil with a like for like item is the easiest and least invasive means? You can buy a helicoil extraction tool for around £20, which will remove the remaining part without a...

Re: Brakes stuck on

The same thing happened on my 420, which has pretty much the same braking system as the Series 2 E Type. It was the reaction valve on the front of the master cylinder, supplied by you know who, that had been assembled with the piston the wrong way around and therefore maintaining vacuum on the brake...

Re: Led H4 headlamp conversation kit

I've dealt with Gil and bought his a LED kits for all the dash and panel lights, including the fantastic blue instrument lights he developed for Jaguar Classic. He is a great guy to deal with, as everybody says. At the time, there was a dichotomy of views on LED headlights and I decided against them...

Re: Coil wiring series 1

:yeahthat: There seems to be an underlying opinion that Jaguar were incompetent and penny-pinching but this simply can't be true, otherwise the marque would have sunk into obscurity a long time ago. They produced cars that out-performed many of their rivals costing double the price or more and had b...

Re: Cooling fan not working

Maybe, but watch the tracking index of the material you use. It isn't something commonly quoted in filament properties. Also, the layered nature of the print may provide an easy tracking path through the part.

Re: Cooling fan not working

Not cardboard, probably Nomex card, which is a high dielectric strength insulating material.
Would you really believe that a motor manufacturer would use a piece of cardboard in a motor? If it really was cardboard then some bodge monger has been there before you.

Re: In-tank fuel pump

Hi Alun I think, historically, the pump changed when the 4.2 was introduced to give greater fuel delivery because the 3.8 pump was marginal at sustained engine RPM. I don't know for definite, but I think the in-tank pumps being offered today have a better delivery rate than the original. I converted...

Re: 3.8 Series 1 - specific : Removing The Sump And Changing the Sump-To-Seal-Carrier Seal ?

Hi Geoff It is ludicrous to suggest that the engineers working at Jaguar were incompetent or negligent in any aspect of designing and engineering these magnificent cars. Given the number of times we heard Norman Dewis regale us with stories of constant intensive testing of these cars under all sorts...

It does look better, in my opinion too.

Maybe make a template to keep in reserve in case somebody later wants to reinstate the trim?

Re: Chrome strip in Tailgate heated backlight seal

Hi When I did mine, I found I needed to keep drawing the trim part way back out, give it a little twist in the opposite direction to which it was kinking out of the seal and then re-fit it. Rinse and repeat until the whole trim is in. Then struggle to fit the finisher pieces. It took about an hour b...

Middle of picture: 10.7mm/8.5mm and 9.9mm/6.3mm with 6 indents. Right: As supplied today. The ...

Re: Toyota w58 gearbox

Hi A quick check of Toyota ratios suggests the 5th gear is 0.783:1. So, if you have 2700rpm at 70mph with your standard gearbox 4th ratio of 1:1, you should see 70mph at around 2100rpm with the 5 speed. Clearly, you would need to verify the ratios in Toyota 'box, and check your speedometer calibrati...

Annoyingly, I can't use an overseas VPN due to the nature of my work. I'll just have to live without the pictures.
