"Methyl ethyl ketone is a colourless, volatile, highly flammable liquid with a fruity odour .Methyl Ethyl Ketone (C4H8O) is an organic compound that is a strong, corrosive, naturally oxidizing agent. It is a liquid ketone with no colour, and a sharp odour similar to acetone. In fact, MEK and aceton...

Re: Series 1 Heater Cable Routing and Spring Type
Have you learned nothing, Grasshopper? Clearly, you bought the wrong spring and just got lucky in that it fit.
We've earned the right (and spent a lot of hard-earned) to be cynical about such things.

Hi Andy, I feel your pain. It looks like some half asleep drone working for said "specialist" has rounded 3.75 inches up to 100mm without considering the possible effects. Happens all the time in this game. Our cars were made under the Imperial system, so, please suppliers, stop using metric measure...

Re: Folding down the Soft top correctly
I think he means the top car of the 2 cars in the second picture is his. The first picture is probably something he's found on the internet. Perhaps not the clearest of posts but all he wants to know is whether there is a procedure for folding the hood so that it sits lower on the bodywork. I can't ...

Get yourself a set of taps and dies and clean up all threads before you start assembling things.

Re: Hinged Extension Support Rail 3.8 FHC
Thanks Steve That link was helpful in that it showed the hinged extension sitting neatly on the support rail although it appears to be a later car than mine. I have all the hardware in place on the hinged board but getting everything to line up is exercising my patience in that I can't see that my n...

Re: Sequence: interior, doors, glass, chrome etc
Hi Mikael You may find that you have rivetted the seal retaining channel using all the holes provided, which is what my body guy did. It's not a total loss because all you need to do is drill the rivets out of the holes that are supposed to be used for fixing the cantrail crash pads (using small No....

Re: Hinged Extension Support Rail 3.8 FHC
Thanks Danny,
That helps in confirming the board sits pretty much level with the boot floor but what I really need is some views from the front showing the board meeting the support rail.

Hinged Extension Support Rail 3.8 FHC
Hi Guys Do any of you have pictures showing the position of the above mentioned support rail, please? Most of the pictures that I have seen are taken with the seats in place so detail isn't complete. What I am most interested in is seeing how the hinged extension board sits on the support rail. In m...

Re: Folding down the Soft top correctly
You're right, this is why forums exist but you only asked the question yesterday. The beauty of this forum is that, in the main, people speak from knowledge and experience so if they don't know the answer they remain silent. Given time, the person with the right answer will most likely contribute. M...

Re: Over torqued head nuts
Corrected my post, I'd previously used the wrong values for yield and ultimate stresses for bolts. So Jaguars spec is only 70% of yield, i.e. not "torque-to-yield". As I added, crazy waste to replace these studs, imo. My point is that we don't know the spec of the studs and the nuts so we can't pre...

Re: Over torqued head nuts
Hi Ian Some of these replies are quite worrying. If you were paying me for professional advice then I would say replace the studs and the nuts (and, of course, the gasket). The only way I could possibly advise otherwise is if you could furnish me with all the data relating to the studs and nuts such...

Re: Center console, originality
I thought cars with red interiors had grey headlining? That's what mine has, as supplied by BAS. Have I got the wrong colour headlining? BAS will offer you a selection of shades of red. They sent me samples of each material and colour combinations to choose from. I went for something as close to Jag...

This really is sad news. Geographically, he was probably the closest member of this forum to me, although we never met in person. He was, as others have said, knowledgeable and generous with his time and had a particular way of looking at things. Rest in peace, Christopher. This forum will be poorer...

Re: Center console, originality
Mmmh,
So my car, built 28th December 1962, is 888007 with a "higher" number than a 1964 car (880471)? Ok, so mine is a coupe and Pierre's is an OTS but that seems to be even more confusing.
I wonder why Jaguar did that?

Re: Center console, originality
That's strange, Pierre. Have you misquoted your chassis number? A LHD OTS should have a chassis number starting 87****, with the earliest being 875001. LHD FHCs started at 885001, making an 880*** number incorrect.

Re: Federal spinners + adaptor + lead mallet
Hi
The hammer (mallet) linked to above is far too small for spinner removal. I would suggest the 63mm diameter/2kg item otherwise you'll be pounding away all day and end up with nothing but a broken hammer!
