Thanks Mikael
Can I ask please, what finish did you use on the panel steel before the 2 pack epoxy primer - if any? And could you let me know which brand of two pack you used?
Many thanks again. Nigel

Re: Under body refinishing advice
Hi Simon Oh for a jig that exposes the underside of the car - and a car stripped sufficiently to go on one. Very envious. I am working with about 2' of head room but that is ok as any higher increases arm ache! A pillow helps. The 2 pack mastic I have used is Rust 121 and it does seem to do what it ...

Re: Under body refinishing advice
Thanks Julian, I have posted some more info following Steve's response above. And yes - bitumastic is problematic and I would not use it. The product I have used is a two pack paint that forms a very hard coating - but this is of no use if the substrate coating has not properly adhered. It is becomi...

Re: Under body refinishing advice
Thanks for coming back on this new topic Steve. The product is Rust 123 from Rust UK. Comprehensive user info is on the rust store .com under Rust Converter which is the same product. You are right that the product needs rust to work but it is advertised as suitable for painting on clean steel. From...

Under body refinishing advice
The external underfloor panels of my 67 FHC owned 39 years had a combination of original panel etch primer, some patchy anti-chip and some colour spray-drift two pack following full professional refinishing about 20 years ago. The shop did not finish the underside as they assumed it would be waxoyle...

Re: Front Suspension error
Thank you Joe, Chris and Andrew (and previous contributors). It is very reassuring to find there is such enthusiastic support out there. As Joe says, I should know know the car inside out so resetting the TBs when the other settings were supposed to be as per manual should not have thrown up another...

Re: Front Suspension error
Thanks again Steve. Just for ref. the ride height is now 9" - it was 4.5" too low before the torsion bar reset. The fouling occurs when driven and only during full lock manoeuvres eg parking. The fouling is fairly equal on both sides but it may well be the rack was not centred as they also fitted ne...

Re: Front Suspension error
Hi Christopher
Thanks for your interest. I just posted to Steve and can confirm that the tyres are 185 R15 Avons on standard wire wheels. Any ideas welcome.
Cheers Nigel

Re: Front Suspension error
Hi Steve Thanks for speedy response and queries. The tyres are 185 R15 Avons and the mudguards are tight to the frame. The ride height was 4.5" too low before the torsion bar reset and is now at 9" at the measuring points with some load. It was a surprise to me as well as I can't see how a minor adj...

Front Suspension error
My local motor engineers reset the torsion bars on my S1 4.2 FHC 67 (owned 39 years) to the correct height but now the inside back edge of both the front tyres (correct size) are fouling the bottom edge of the inner mudguards - ie the steering rack is turning the tyres onto the bottom of the inner m...
