Re: Engine Number Series 3 Roadster RH

Check the chassis plate attached to the bulkhead below the central bonnet catch. This should have the engine number stamped into it. 7S corresponds to a Series 3 car. The car paperwork should help you and if there is a JDHT Heritage certificate the original engine number will be on it.

Re: Non matching cylinder head?

ok thanks Terry for your invaluable knowledge.
It 'maybe' ok :questionmarks: to stamp a blank head but re stamping one would not be legal in the UK. As the head on this car is unpainted it may remain unstamped.

Re: Non matching cylinder head?

Hi Geoff. The car is a S1 4.2. According to the seller the head is from a later E-Type. Its not painted any colour, just bear alley. The car is a USA dry state example so the body is good. I am trying to determine if the head issue greatly effects the value before I consider purchasing and spending ...

Non matching cylinder head?

I have been in contact with a seller who has a 4.2 S1. The engine block number matches the original data plate but apparently the head is from a later car. Did the heads change at all during the life of these engines and is this likely to significantly reduce the value of the car?

Many thanks

Pattern chrome parts poor fit?

Hi all I have recently been 'tentatively' searching for a project E-Type S1 2 seat FHC. All of the cars I have seen have either missing windscreen upper / lower finishers or A-post chromes and rear tailgate window chrome finishers. I understand these can be purchased new as pattern parts but I under...

Smooth to fluted cam covers date?

When did E-Type XK cam covers change from smooth to the black fluted style please? Was it prior to the series 1.5?

Re: Sandblasting bonnet

The last car I stripped completely was with paint stripper bought from my local motor factors. I then used a rotary wire brush to remove any residue and washed off with thinners. Time consuming but kind to the metal

Re: Help with BRG Color match

Often modern paint codes don't produce exact matches to the original colours. If you have some of the original colour you maybe able to match it using a colour spectrometer which some car paint suppliers use. Even this may not be exact as it will only match to the nearest colour on the database. You...

Just so we are clear. I will not be embarking on any illegal endeavours to obtain details of the car.

If anyone knows the owner I will be very grateful they could please get in touch.

Re: V12 Roadster KVT562K?

This is an easy fix, just send a letter to the DVLA with the reg. no. shown and ask for the registered keeper details, if you say that your car was damaged in a pub car park and a good person left a note on your windscreen with this reg. no. on it then they will provide you with the info. that you ...

V12 Roadster KVT562K?

Hi all, My family sold this car over 20 years ago diss assembled as a stalled restoration to a chap named Duncan in Castleford, West Yorkshire who owned a classic car restoration business. I presume it has since been restored. Searching the DVLA website there is no MOT history, and is SORN. Original...

Does anyone recognise this E-Type?

This car is being offered in an auction for seized vehicles, sadly as a result has been parted from all of its history. A 2-owner car in the unusual colour of Willow Green with black leather this is a very early example which definitely needs some TLC. It would be great to reunite the car with its h...

Re: British Racing Green

I believe the early dark BRG was carried over from the C and D-Type racing cars and was used on S1 3.8 and 4.2 cars. Opalescent Dark Green is quite a lot different.

Look at 77RW which is a good reference.

"Jaguar BRG" is too dark for me.

The early Jaguar BRG was very dark but the colour used on the S3 was much lighter - similar to MG BRG.

Re: British Racing Green

Lots to consider when repainting your car which will effect the outcome, so its important you know these things before any paint goes on. It doesn't help that we can see more shades of green than any other colour - but that's another conversation  Green is one of those colours that can vary ...
