Re: Deteriorating Starting Performance

Thanks Marek
What you say is correct, and I will check the choke linkages and cable today, I'll let you know what I find.
But it doesn't explain the problem when the engine is at operating temperatures.

Deteriorating Starting Performance

My SIII OTS has always started well, give the fuel pump some ticks to fill the carbs, turn the key and she'd quickly fire into life. But in the last week or two that's changed. Now, after letting the fuel pump run for a short while, the engine will fire sweetly on the starter motor but as soon as th...

Re: Oil pressure drop on auto transmission S3

Hi Chris This only happens with the car in drive. To me, that means it’s related to the reduction in rpm from +/-700 rpm to around 650rpm. Oil level fine. Hopefully it’s just a gauge/sensor issue. How would I check with a mechanical oil pressure gauge? It’s an early V12 so the sensor and oil pressur...

Oil pressure drop on auto transmission S3

The rebuilt engine in my S3 OTS automatic has good oil pressure most of the time, but when I come to a stop and leave the transmission in 'Drive', at a set of traffic lights for example, the oil pressure gauge gradually drops to 0. The warning light does not come on. Tick over is about 700rpm and dr...

Re: Small but job-stopping problem with the front lower wishbone forward fulcrum shaft...

Just to close of this post, here's how I got on. Each upper wishbone trunnion is held on by two bolts that pass through tubes set into the front frame and attach to nyloc bolts on the inner side. Each lower wishbone trunnion is attached at the top in the same way as the upper wishbone trunnions but ...

Re: Small but job-stopping problem with the front lower wishbone forward fulcrum shaft...

Thanks Bill You’re tapping into my current thinking… I’ve had the bonnet off before, and it’s a pain to get off and I have the constant worry that it’s going to get damaged while standing in the corner of the garage. I’m thinking something similar to the suspension setting tool, the one that goes in...

Re: Small but job-stopping problem with the front lower wishbone forward fulcrum shaft...

I spent yesterday evening studying the parts catalogue, squeezing my hands into tight spaces and crawling under the car. Here's what I found... Each bottom bolt/set screw on the trunnions go into captive nuts in the frame, but the top bolts go through the frame and into a nyloc nut. The upper rear i...

Thanks Marek, thanks Steve... not the news I wanted but I have a 'next step' now so really appreciate you taking the time to share thoughts. Marek, I'm following the Jaguar Workshop Manual so torsion bar already removed, thanks for the tip all the same. Tomorrow I'm back in the garage. I'll let you ...

Sorry folks.... I'd left this post in "Preview" mode, got called away from my desk and just pressed 'SUBMIT" when I returned, not realising there were a couple more posts since I wrote it... that's why it seems out of sequence... Bizarrely, it looks like there are bolts on the inner side of t...

Re: Small but job-stopping problem with the front lower wishbone forward fulcrum shaft...

Thanks Steve… but I think you’re referring to a six-cylinder car…

On a V12 I’m sure the picture frame is a closed tube behind this bolt and, with all the plumbing for the power steering, no way could you describe it as “…easy to get a socket on…”

Small but job-stopping problem with the front lower wishbone forward fulcrum shaft...

I'm overhauling the front suspension on my '71 S3 OTS. All was going well till I came to remove the top bolt on the forward fulcrum trunnion. At first it wouldn't move at all, but now it is moving it is not unscrewing. As far as I can see there is no nut on the inner side of the picture frame - it's...

Re: Rear suspension series 3 ots

Hi Apologies for only just picking up your post. Like you I was having problems with my car exhaust bottoming out, a problem that really showed up when I did the Scottish North Coast 500 with a boot full of camping gear in September last year. Basically, I've done what Marek suggested, and it worked...

Re: Handbrake Adjustment

Thanks Mark
It's the original cable.
Luckily my car is an auto so I'm going to forget about this until I have another reason to drop the IRS.
Thanks for all your knowledge guys.
Cheers

Series 3 OTS Window/Hood Alignment

Dear All The rear edge of my driver's side window sits proud of the rubber seal on the hood frame by 5mm at the bottom, 8mm at the top. At the front of the glass there is a good seal. The glass on both sides is 15° from the vertical. On the passenger side there's a good seal along the whole glass. L...

Re: Handbrake Adjustment

Thanks for all the replies folks. I've just put the IRS back in the car and I suspect I rushed reassembly of the handbrake mechanism. MarekH, the adjuster is at maximum stretch, any further and it'll fall out of the block it screws into. I think I need to adjust the thread on the yoke that links to ...

Handbrake Adjustment

Just had my '71 OTS MoT'd... It passed, but with a note "Nearside handbrake effort very low! Needs looking at". Which part of the mechanism do I need to adjust to fix this? And can I get at this from the rear axle access points underneath the rear shelf? https://i.postimg.cc/Jn5TVZnN/IMG-2391.jpg Th...

Re: Have my RADIUS ARMS shrunk at the powder coaters?

Sorted! After lowering the front wheels onto the ground the gap was a lot smaller. Finally, I got the missus to rock the car back and forth against the handbrake while I pushed the cups into place. The expression on my wife's face during this exercise was scary, I got the impression she was quite en...

Re: factory 2 into 1 exhaust pipes; left versus right

Mmm... that might explain my problem... the exhaust ends of my 2 into 1’s didn’t match up to the exhaust... my engine builder had replaced two exhaust manifolds and I put the problem down to them being bad castings. Not having the time or patience to take the engine out again I made up a longer bala...

Re: Have my RADIUS ARMS shrunk at the powder coaters?

Wow! In just a few minutes, really useful advice... I love this forum. Thanks guys. Marek, fitting the split (Cotter) pin isn't the problem, it's lining up the holes in the HB compensator with the yoke on the end of the HB cable and at the same time dropping the clevis pin into the aligned holes. It...

Have my RADIUS ARMS shrunk at the powder coaters?

I spent the weekend refitting my IRS - it's taking a lot longer than I expected. Fitting the hand brake clevis pin, what a PITA... another Jaguar Repair Operation Manual impossitask. I ended up dropping the IRS again to get my hands into the space. Anyway, the job is not finished yet. Even with the ...
