Re: Ignition short help

Have narrowed it down a bit, the fuse that keeps blowing is the one for the tail lights and horn, the fuse is getting too hot to touch and then blows, and even when the fuse is intact the tail lights aren’t working. It also isn’t exciting the diodes to get the alternator working. I can’t currently g...

Ignition short help

Hi there I have a short somewhere between the coil positive terminal and the ignition fuse behind the dashboard. The car cut out going over a speed bump at low speed. There was no power at the coil positive terminal. I found a blown fuse behind the dash and replaced it and checked the circuit and it...

Re: Clutch fluid gone.

Of course it could simply be that the clutch slave has failed. Hardly an unknown problem. Quick look and a grope around should I indicate. Tim I had a good look, the body of the slave has a bit of surface rust, but the cap etc all looks intact and I can’t see any moisture or leakage. Now I have fil...

Clutch fluid gone.

I have to admit to having been a negligent parent and having never consciously checked the clutch fluid level on my Series 2. Last week the clutch started feeling a bit soft. I checked the fluid and it was basically gone, just a bit of sludge in the bottom of the reservoir. I have owned if for two y...

Dumb taillight question

I have one rear brake light and both rear main lights out. Thought I would check bulbs first as (theoretically) the easiest explaination. I took the four screws out that go through the plastic lens and it doesn’t come off, also took out the two screws underneath that go through the trim into the lig...

Re: Squeaky chattering noise front of engine

Turns out it was a completely shot alternator, eventually bearings seized and belt was squealing over the pulley. Now replaced with a brand new Lucas alternator and all good.

Belt tensioner would be my first port of call.
Thanks, in the sense that you think it needs retensioning or that might be what is causing the noise?

Squeaky chattering noise front of engine

Hi all Today out of nowhere I was getting a rotational chattering squeaky noise coming from the front of my motor, it doesn’t seem to be or sounding like a slipping belt. I suspect pulley or pump bearings what are your thoughts? It mostly went away after about 20 minutes although there is still an o...

I’ve been very happy with my 123 Jag. Standard curve, starts well, runs well very responsive.

Have you tried moving the plug to another cylinder to see if the problem moves with it, also you could do the same with the HT lead & cap to check first ?
Have replaced the plug several times. All new 123 distributor, new leads, new coil.

Wet plug fouling

Hi there, I am getting oily wet fouling on the 3rd cylinder from the front (technically not sure what cylinder number that is) I assume it’s probably either a head gasket or a valve guide.

Any advice on which it’s most likely to be or if there is another option I have missed?

Re: 123 and tachometer

So I am up to about 3 weeks with the new 123 so far and so far all good, it runs so smoothly it’s like dream it’s never sounded so good, it starts very easily and the idle is even fairly smooth. It’s just on the standard advance curve settings and the one thing I may try is changing that at some poi...

Re: Now missing and backfiring without choke

Sorry I now have a couple of threads on this problem but for completeness of this one, I have installed a 123 Electronic distributor replacement and all going really well so far, but I have had a good result before only to have it go bad again within a few weeks so fingers crossed this has nailed it

Re: 123 and tachometer

First impressions are good, runs more smoothly than it ever has, even idle is almost smooth, not quite but almost, starts immediately feels like it has more power and definitely more responsive to the throttle. But I’ve been down this path before only to be disappointed. The test will be if it stays...
