Re: Two smells inside the car: GASOLINE and EXHAUST. Is it regular?

Thanks everyone for the replies. I'll try to check all the critical points you've written. You haven't mentioned anything about the exhaust smells. To explain better: I always keep the radiator fan on (to circulate air), but it's not coming from there, since there's no bad smell if the windows are c...

Two smells inside the car: GASOLINE and EXHAUST. Is it regular?

I have two smells inside the car: GASOLINE and EXHAUST fumes. I'd like to know if this happens in your cars too, so I can put my mind at rest. When I fill the tank more than halfway with gasoline, I smell GASOLINE inside the car. All the clamps are tight and I don't see any leaks. Is it the fuel tan...

Re: Inside Lights

Thanks for the replies. I ordered two bulb sockets for speedo and revcounter because I only have one for each. I ordered also the plastic green (the one for the legend strip) which I'll try to cut and put in the holes to restore original condition, otherwise I'll use the green lamps. I like the idea...

Inside Lights

I have a doubt about inside lights. I made a photo. The speedometer light seems like a joke, in left hand version the only one light thet shows speed after 120 km/h. The console lights are all different, in my case. Legend strip is darkness (like Prince Lucas). Are these correct? Can I fix them? Is ...

Re: Radio Power Supply Location?

Hi thanks for aswering. I tried to put radio (Frankfurt serie X) and other "back box" inside central console (in every position) but without result. In my case I changed also original one speaker to two speakers. Finally I desisted and installed amplifier box under glover box, It wasn't my prefer so...

Re: DIFF. better 3,07 or 2,88 for 2+2?

Hi, after your interesting comments and after a drive with a 3.07 differential (4.2 - 1 series) and with a 2.88 (4.2. - 1 series 2+2), I make a decision. I prefer 3.07 differential and I decided to change to that ratio. Now I need to update speedometer. Is it possible to change gears to transform a ...

Re: DIFF. better 3,07 or 2,88 for 2+2?

Thank you all for the advice and above all for the experiences-impressions with the differentials mounted on your cars. I understood the strengths and weaknesses of two ratios and you also gave me technical and historical notions (test on the first E-types). I will also talk to the mechanic and I wi...

DIFF. better 3,07 or 2,88 for 2+2?

Hi, I need an opinion about change differential (with a xjs 3,07:1 or 2,88:1). I have a 2+2 first serie with original 3,31:1. In my opinion the 3,31 is too short and when you go fast engine revs are to high. So I'm orienting to buy a different ratio differential. Two choices: 3,07 or 2,88. I think 2...

Owner pack - literature pack 4.2

Hi, Roger Payne wrote interesting articles about correct owner pack on E-type Magazine. I'm searching to know if mine is correct and completed but I haven't part 2 and part 3 of "E-type LITERATURE pack 4.2". They should be published on numbers 137 and 138 (april and may 2016). Anybody have them? Tha...

2+2 - heat shield on tunnel?

Hi, I'm reassembling gear box and exahust lines and On my car I have a doubt about heat shields. I have only one heat shield on the rear but not one in tunnel near gear. From manuals/spare parts catalogues result that on 4.2 car (and also in 2+2 automatic trasmission) there are two heat shields. My ...

Re: body plate - where do I buy it?

I'm in contact with Todd about making a tag for my car, however we weren't aware there are 2 sizes of these tags, so he is tooling up to make the S2 & 3 ones, which are larger and bigger digit size. Can anyone confirm that all Series 1 have tags approx 62mm (2.45") long, with holes 54mm (2.125") ap...

Re: correct compression ratio

Thanks Peter, I checked on the plate, as you suggested, and the correct compression ratio is 9:1. Unfortunately the engine was rebuilt with 8: 1. Discussing with the mechanics they told me that it is better because the engine (and in particular the head) is less stressed and works at a lower tempera...

correct compression ratio

Hi, I have a doubt about correct compression ratio of my 4.2, 2+2 (made on march 1966 for US). A specialist remade the engine of my car and they used 8:1 pistons. Now I read probably my car uses 9:1 compression ratio but on request 8:1. I have the original pistons (on pics) and on they are stamped n...

Re: TRIPLEX logos research - a bit of help needed

Hi,
I think it's not PLATE but LAMINATED because it's longer and because it's 1966. Maybe with a dot below A (but I can see it).
Dot is above T and near X (but I don't know if this dot has sense).
I have a new windshield and I'm trying to re-made the correct logo.
