Hi David,
My 63 did have a bottle jack when I bought it late 1969,
But it was somewhat unstable so got a later one( Metallifacture) and the bottle got lost!. The top of both jacks was a square lump that fitted into the square jacking point cup.
Cheers,
Peter

Hi Richard, It's directly under the end of the cross rail at the strongest point. I recently replaced the outer 9 inches of the floors and the cills (Robey). I was very careful to copy the original and only replaced rusty metal. The jack cups came pre welded on with the Robey floors (I cut them and ...

Hi, I bought an MGB in 1965 and it came with 165 Cinturatos. Went well. So when I bought an E in 1969 (used) I fitted 185 Cints. Big mistake. Car steered from both ends unless the 185's were rock hard. Fitted cross plies and road holding sharp again. When cross plies went off the market ( not on the...

Hi, On my '63 FHC jacking points are square upturned cups fixed to the edge of the floor under the stiffener, not part of the cill. Guess 16swg and just big enough to accept the square top of the jack, and about 1/4 inch deep. Mine has now the later Metallifacture screw jack but originally a 3 secti...

RHD 3.8 FHC 1963 clutch line
I have come to fix clutch pipe from m/c to clutch and cannot remember the pipe run and bracket fixing prior to flexi down to clutch housing, any one got a pic.
Other stuff screwed on installed so need to thread it correctly and correct bolt for bracket,
Cheers,
Peter

Hi Chris, The shocks won't extend longer than 410mm. Trying to fit them I jacked up the lower wishbone but had to get the wife to sit on the engine picture frame to push the torsion bar down far enough to try put the top shock bolt in. With no engine or bonnet I still had to add my weight and a sash...

S1 3.8 trackrod ends
Hi Andrew, thanks for reply,
Ok so who is selling the correct ones? I have bought so called replacements that don't swivel enough.
Cheers,
Peter

E Type 3.8 series 1 steering ball joints
Hi folks. I am assembling my front suspension and torsion bars and find there is not enough angular movement in the track rod ends at lowest suspension position with the shock absorbers fitted. If I bolt them all up all the dead weight of the suspension and wheel is supported by the trackrod end and...

E Type rear discs 3.8 1963 June.
Hi folks, 12mm discs arrived and now fitted, perfect. All slack removed, handbrake pads now parallel , main pads slide in and out with about 1 mm clearance. Anyone else out there with same- perhaps not aware? Check calliper web is the same thickness as the disc. Another interesting difference is the...

1963 June 3.8 e type coupe rear brake discs
Hi folks, I did some more digging and reading all my e type books. In my 1991 copy of "6 cylinder restoration and originality guide" by Prof Haddock, page22 he says about June 1963 from 87944/1 , 879460/1, 888694/5, 850721/2, 861184/5, 879493/4, 888705/6, and 888672/3 for cars with 3.54:1 , 3.07:1 a...

Thanks for all the info and Neil for pics. You may have it there maybe 4.2 calipers. I do remember giving the car to the jag main dealer asking them to sort out the brakes as they were terrible. The caliper bridge where the main pad retainer is fastened measures is 1/2 inch thick, and your calipers ...

E type series 1 3.8 rear discs
What you're describing sounds normal to me. The handbrake pads when new are cut on a chamfer and the rear edges never get anywhere near the disc surface. If you fit thicker discs you'll probably not get new main pads to fit between the caliper pistons and the disc. When you say you had to change pa...

E type series 1 rear discs
Hi, I'm reassembling the rear suspension/diff/brakes of my 3.8 June 1963 coupe. I have noticed that the new 3/8 discs seem way too thin. The handbrake pads are at an angle and the heels by the pivot bearings don't touch the disc, and the lost movement in the normal calliper pads seems to indicating ...
