Clutch master cylinder nut access
I need to replace the clutch master cylinder on 1970 S2 Coupe (LHD). The job is straightforward except for the very first step. I cannot get access to the lower of the two nuts that hold the cylinder in place. I can't get a wrench or box spanner on it, nor is there any room to even turn a spanner if...

are you just asking us to do your thinking for you?
Why the smart-arse response at the end? No Pete, I'm not asking you to do my thinking for me so there's no need to be insulting. I thought this forum was for people needing help with their questions. Not everyone is a mechanical wizard. Your diagnostic questions are useful however, so thanks for tho...

Steering wheel wobble
I've had pretty bad steering wheel wobble for about 6-9 months. car has brand new tyres and wheels checked and balanced just last week, but wobble is still there. It's a S2 can that has power steering though the power system no longer working. Any thoughts on what might be the cause? Thanks.

Adjusting bumper height
I need to adjust the height of my front bumper slightly on one side (it is 1/2" too high on one side and makes everything look lop-sided). I can't figure out how to access the securing nuts that are behind the bodywork (one near the mouth and one near the wheel arch). What do I have to remove to get...

BINGO! I got it off! Full left lock and a long bar on the end of the box spanner and off it came. FYI, the 3 grub screws hold the boss in place (on the S2 at least). My boss was glued on as previous owner must have broken it trying to prise it off. I eased it off gently with a screwdriver. Once the ...

How remove steering wheel nut?
I'm having trouble removing the 1" steering wheel nut so I can get the wheel off and renovate it. Car is S2. Has original wheel. The nut is on rock solid. I've applied penetrating oil but still won't budge. Hard part is trying to stop wheel and column turning while applying force to remove nut. Just...

A characteristic E-type 'ticking' sound
One of my early memories of an E-type was hearing a kind of ticking sound. I recently read about a characteristic E-type 'ticking', but I've only found one passing reference to it in a magazine. My own car makes such a sound but at first I thought it was the valve clearances making a noise so I had ...

Thanks guys. Carburetors were not fully rebuilt, but had gaskets, diaphragms replaced. However, there is does appear to be vacuum leak in one carburetor as idle speed increases when I spray ether towards the throttle valve spindle. I've increased the idle speed for the time being and that prevents i...

Engine cuts out (or tries to) when clutch pedal depressed
When slowing for corners and lights etc. (i.e., low revs), depressing the clutch pedal causes engine to cut out or try to cut out. Note: Just had major tune up, electronic ignition, valve clearances set, carbs (2 x Strombergs) sorted, the works. It is starting and running great except for this issue...

Oil in the intake manifold
Just taken the (twin Stromberg) carbs of my 1970 US-spec S2 to try and solve a starting problem (I think I have sticking needle valve). In doing so I noticed that the inlet manifold is full of oil. Not seen that before. Any idea how the oil may have got in there? There's a lot of oil so I'm guessing...

Centre console question (and parts that don't *%$#@! fit!!!)
Bear with me. I need to grumble. I'm about to remove the ugly air conditioning vents (and the rest of the A/C junk which doesn't work anymore) from my US spec. S2 1970 (manual gearbox) car . As that will leave a gap above the console I've bought a new console/fascia (radio surround) for a non-A/C ca...
