4.2L 2+2 Tachometer generator

Hi guys, The tachometer of my 1968 4.2L 2+2 has been overhauled twice by a specialist, via David Manners Ltd, in UK. But these overhaulings didn't resolve the problems : the tachometer displays erratic values, never the same one for a same speed !! I wonder if the problem could come from the tachome...

Interior panels missing

Hello, The 2 interior "panels" which go under the dashboard, driver and passager sides, are missing (see pictures attached). Any chance to purchase them... ? I didn't find them on Limora, David Manners, etc... Thanks, Julian Screen Shot 2018-12-12 at 13.04.08.jpg Screen Shot 2018-12-12 at 13.04.43.j...

Re: Oil Sump Dipstick

Hello, As promised, I checked my engine oil dipstick and I join 3 pictures. The 2 first ones are the dipstick under different angle. The third one is the level displayed by the dipstick for 8.5L of oil. Screen Shot 2018-12-12 at 12.22.33.jpg Screen Shot 2018-12-12 at 12.22.46.jpg Screen Shot 2018-12...

Re: Oil Sump Dipstick

Good evening,

The car is on my car lift, which is supposed to be horizontal !

The dipstick is very slightly bent. I will take some pictures of it tomorrow... And will have a look if a E is on its bottom.

See you tomorrow,

Julian

Oil Sump Dipstick

Good evening, I'm currently working on a 1969 4.2 2+2 E-type, US version. A new piston ring set has been fitted. I filled the oil sump with the required volume oil, I mean 8.5L. But when I control with the oil sump dipstick, the oil level seems to be just under the lower mark !! Don't ask me how it ...

Re: Speed and engine speed...

No 123 distributor. Sorry if I didn't use "either" as I should !

I also think that the rev counter is the cause of my problems. I will send it one more time and let all you know.

Thanks for all

Re: Speed and engine speed...

Ralph, It's 3000 rpm at 200 km/h (125 mph), 2400 rpm at 160 km/h (100 mph), 2300 rpm at 150 km/h (90 mph), 1800 rpm at 120 km/h (75 mph). The calibration seems to follow some logic... Steve, It has never worked ! In a first time, we thought the reason why was the differential replacement (3.54 to 3....

Re: Speed and engine speed...

Good evening dear e-type lovers, The speedometer is right ! 200 kmh, with one's hands tied behind one's back !!! This speed has been double checked. First with a Sat Nav App (a different one that the one used previously) and secondly thanks to the another car that I was personally driven !! All the ...

Re: Speed and engine speed...

Good evening guys, The angle drive is an interesting trail to explore ! Usually, when an angle drive is used, it has a tendency to not make the cable turn and so the speed displayed is under the real one, even no speed displayed at all ! Is the angle drive the same for all the 4.2L manual gearbox E-...

Re: Speed and engine speed...

Thank you Julian for your answer. The speed limit in France is 130 km/h. I suppose that my customer confounded km/h and mph... Concerning my problem, could the tyres' size explain the situation ? They are 185 P15... Anyone knows another way to check the engine speed than the stroboscopic lamp...

1968 S1.5 E-Typ Jaguar drive shaft removal

Good evening dear members, I have to remove the drive shaft of a 1968 S1.5 E-Typ Jaguar. I already removed : # The 2 exhaust lines, # The safety cover under the drive shaft, # The suspension's gearbox support. I also unscrewed the 8 bolts and nuts (4 at each end of the drive shaft). And now... ?!? H...
