Re: Differential (final drive unit) rear cover gasket

Hello Bill, Thanks for the advice. I plan to coat the paper gasket with a thin layer of Hylomar blue on both sides, I have had good experiences with this, especially if the sealing surfaces are not in perfect condition. What kind of superior gasket material are you using to make the gasket? Best reg...

Re: Differential (final drive unit) rear cover gasket

Gentlemen, thanks for the confirmation; I had already thought that replacing the gasket would be a fiddly job. It is indeed a 2.88 differential, because a corresponding tag labelled "2.88" is attached and a recalculation (certain speeds -measured with GPS- at different revs) has led to confirmation....

Differential (final drive unit) rear cover gasket

My E Type has a non-original differential with GKN casting mark on the housing and with final drive ratio 2,88 :1. I assume that it is a differential from an XJS, although the rear cover is not made of aluminium and has no cooling fins. It looks like shown in the E Type Series III parts catalogue. T...

Craig It's one of those things with our hobby: we're getting more and more perfect at opening cans of worms: Projects that started out as manageable become complex jobs that blow any budget. It's like a crab walk: one step forward, followed by two steps back…incomprehension about how our vehicles we...

Re: S3 Heater Install

Gordon, I can only speak for LHD E Type Series 3: There is only one relay on the left hand side near the bulkhead, this is the air conditioning main relay. In its original condition it is bolted to the left mudshield, next to the brake fluid reservoir for the rear brakes (see extract from repair man...

Hi Colin,
Thanks for your detailed answer.
However, in the meantime I decided to keep the PDWA.

Removing PDWA, thread size/flare type of fittings

Hello all, I would like to remove the PDWA and instead connect the two brake lines for the front circuit / the rear circuit with screw fittings connectors. Since I want to order the necessary connectors and have them on site before I start work, here are my questions: What are the thread sizes of th...

Changing coolant V12

I have found many posts about replacing the coolant, however, I still have the following questions before I want to replace the coolant in my E Type V12 myself: 0. Is there a simple way to analyse whether the anti-corrosion additives in silicate cooling water (that is still clear and of blue-green c...

Hi Harald
I assume your car is US specification; the relay inside belongs to the seat belt warning system (see attachment)

Re: New locking boot cable hasn’t lasted a day! Now unable to open boot

Fortunately, I haven't had any problems opening the trunk lid of my S3 OTS yet. However, to be able to rule this out in the future and to be on the safe side, I attached a strong cord to the opening lever of the trunk lock and laid it up to the right rear light housing and fixed it there with an adh...

Re: Turn signal relay

Simon and Steve,
On LHD cars both flasher units are at the same position like RHD (not mirror image); i.e. close to the glove box of LHD Cars.

Re: Foam deadening

Peter
Jaguar factory used leather for a small number of parts: top of the seat (sides are vinyl), the backrest front surface and - for manuals- the gaiter of the gear stick. Concerning the materials used for trimming you may check the homepage of trimming shops, e.g. john-skinner.co.uk

Re: Foam deadening

Hi Peter the common foam sheets (supplied by trimmers and the foam used by Jaguar as well) are open cell foam; i.e. if the area around the sill gets wet, the foam acts like a sponge. I used for my car a closed cell foam (the product is called Armacell, 3 mm thickness with adhesive layer, got it via ...

Re: Thread size of front brake bleeding nipples

Hi Andrew, Simon and Steve
Thanks; I understand: I will order non-return bleeding nipples with both thread sizes to make sure that I can install them directly after removing the old nipples. The supplier has already agreed to take the non-fitting parts back.

Re: Series 2 and 3 Headlamp chrome trims supplier?

Hello Simon
Last year I also strained my nerves with the chrome beading. With modest success as far as the fit is concerned. If you manage to find a source for the brass profiles, I would also be very interested in it.
