Re: 1964 3.8 Cylinder head temperature

That seems too cold for your oil esp if running say 20/50 Just to throw my hat in the ring.. I run throttle bodies so have an ecu working the fans, so I’d like to think it’s all very accurate. My fans come on at 80 degrees a little earlier than an otter switch I believe, that was my choice, 90 was t...

That's cool. I see from Merlin too. You are right to rebuild as sensitively to originality as possible

Re: Reverse lamp housing to body gasket/seal

Thanks - must be improvised to protect body paint. It looks quite neat with the bead/pipe when fitted so I’ll reuse it

Re: Metallic rasp/rattle under acceleration 2500rpm

Thanks these are helpful tips. It's definitely load/throttle related so the baffles could be a possibility though it seems to be coming from the engine itself/further forward. I was wondering if a failure of the main seal could be so bad as to allow crank pressure to vent out of it (noisily) under l...

Metallic rasp/rattle under acceleration 2500rpm

Hi all I’ve developed a metallic rasp/rattle which comes on under load (1/2 to full throttle). Car otherwise running well. I thought it might be knock which I’ve not experienced before so don’t know exactly what to listen to. However I have a 123 distributor so was able to retard timing significantl...

My water pump has started leaking so I'm about to pull the trigger on a new one. Attracted to the Rob Beere aluminium one - has anyone had any experience lately?

This may be heresy but I always use Mercedes Benz branded coolant: I was recommended it years ago.

Re: Fan earth/current draw

A further update. I fitted an ignition relay and it has indeed brought the drop down to 1.13V. - I did notice two additional things. Firstly the green wire for the fan was attached to fuse 7 not 6, and also I don’t appear to have the 10v voltage regulator for the water and fuel temperature gauges al...

Re: Fan earth/current draw

Just a quick update on this in case it's of help to anyone searching in the future. There were voltage drops at almost every stage of the circuit rather than one thing going wrong.. I replaced the relay, all four fuse boards (they looked clean but there was quite a drop across each bridge and the Lu...

Re: Fan earth/current draw

Hi, thanks Voltage drop on fan negative to battery negative (it’s a positive earth car…) 3.0V Voltage drop on fan positive to battery ground (positive) 0.1V Hmm. So i assume I have an issue somewhere between green wire from number 6 fuse to the otter switch and the black/green stripe wire that comes...
