Series III Timing Chains [Cam Chains]
If anyone with a Series III has had a timing chain that needed replacing I would be interested to know what your first indications were that the timing chain needed replacing. I have a slight rattle noise from the front right hand side of the motor, it does get louder after a hard run on a hot day h...

Series 3 Losing Coolant after driving........
The car starts and runs great but after a drive I'm losing at least two litres of coolant. The car does not have an overflow reservoir does this mean it should not lose any coolant? In this case does this mean I may have an head gasket leak etc. Any experience in this field will help. I have now add...

Stromberg Carburetor Dash Pots
My carburetors are loosing the oil in the dash pots in a matter of weeks without using the car. 3 being completely empty and 1 with a small amount left. Is it a matter of just replacing the diaphrams which I assume can be done with the carburetors still on the car and where would the best place to b...

Thanks for the information. On the reasons for the compression test I was thinking on the lines of a 'sticky valve', but then again I've had no experience on these cars. I will try your plug lead removal test first. I have also noticed that the dash pots in the carby's tend to loose their oil in a s...

1973 Series 3 2+2 V12 Not running on all cylinders
The car does not run on all cylinders when first started. I'm guessing 11. We need to do a few km's before it comes good. Before I waste time trying to tune it I was going to give it a compression test. I have not done a car for years but I assume its only a matter of holding the throttle open, igni...

Radiator Fan Controls
Thank you Pete & Marek I now understand the workings of the fans better. I checked all over mine for a hidden or alternate switch but could not find anything. While trying to chase through the wiring I noticed an old plug on the new fan side. I unplugged the new edition and plugged the fan into this...

Radiator Fan Controls
1973 2+2 Series 3. I have just noticed that one fan starts when the ignition key is turned [motor not started]. I read in a previous topic "V12 Running Hot" that a reply by Peter Crespin says that a lot of fan controls have been modified. By looking at the wiring diagram there should be only one the...

E-type '73 Floor Panels
I would like to replace the front half of the left hand floor panel in my 2+2. Can anyone recommend places to buy the panels. I gather they come in 2 halves but I can't find information to indicate where they join. By looking at the floor I assume they weld on to the cross member which supports the ...

Pete Thanks for your reply, sorry about the confusion about the clearances but I will stick to the book and your measurement of 6.25" - my measurement is 4". The maintenance book I have is REPAIR OPERATION MANUAL for JAGUAR SERIES III V.12 'E' TYPE published by Jaguar Cars. My chassis number is the ...

1973 e-type V12
Vipergts Thanks for the information re ride height I've decided to go ahead and remove the torsion bar and shift it a notch or a portion thereof. I assume you shifted it one notch at the front, could you give us an estimate of the increase that you gained...this would be a big help as if it is too m...

Just noticed the ride heights problems you've had. I have a '73 V12 e-type. I have exactly the same problem as I have taken one side apart and inserted the measuring gauge intoo the damper position and it measures virtually spot on. My car at the front is 2" lower than it should be. Did you have any...

Front Suspension Ride Height V12 E-Type
I've just gone thru the steps in the maintenance manual to measure the ride height with the bracket made up to insert in the damper position. This measurement was pretty close to spot on. The problem is the front end of the Jaguar is 2" lower than it should be. I am now at a loss to explain the low ...

Ride Height
I have recently purchased an e-type '73 2+2. Near the front it is only 3" at the lowest point and near the back it's 4" [muffler points]. I read the torsion bar adjustment and front suspension settings and measurement (a) on the diagram on my car is only 6" - the standard setting is 8 3/4". What I w...
